Official: Former United academy product Angel Gomes signs for Marseille

Former Manchester United midfielder Angel Gomes has officially signed for Olympique de Marseille.

The England international spent years at the United academy and became the youngest player to make their debut at the club in 2017 at just 16 years old.

He would later leave in 2020 after refusing to sign a new contract.

Gomes enjoyed five successful years at LOSC Lille, where he was awarded with his first caps for the England national team in 2024.

The 24 year old did not extend his contract at the French club however, and he was linked to a return to his former club, as well as Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United.

Nonetheless, he decided to stay in France and gave the green light to a move to Marseille, who finished second in the league last season.

Fabrizio Romano posted a picture of the former United man posing with his new club’s scarf and wrote, “Angel Gomes signs in as new Olympique Marseille player as free agent on three year deal.”
