Official: Another pre-season injury scare hits United as key performer join Andre Onana on the sidelines

Ruben Amorim has named a 29-member travelling squad for the first pre-season friendly against Leeds United in Stockholm on Saturday.

The list includes new signings Matheus Cunha, who will sport the No.10 jersey, as well as Diego Leon, who has been assigned the No.30.

It has already been relayed that Harry Amass will be loaned out so he will not make the trip. Andre Onana is also injured and will likely be out for six weeks.

As a result, the goalkeeping trio will be comprised of backup keeper Altay Bayindir, Tom Heaton as well as Dermot Mee.

Zirkzee injury confirmed

The official website has revealed that apart from the Cameroonian, another key United player has also picked up an injury — Joshua Zirkzee.

He had been out for the last couple of months last season, but did return for the Europa League final, but he has reportedly picked up a small issue in training.

“Andre Onana and Joshua Zirkzee have remained at Carrington to recover from small issues, but the pair are expected to join the rest of the squad for the tour of the United States next week.”

It is well known that Amorim needs strikers, and with Zirkzee injured, once again the onus will fall on Rasmus Hojlund, who was abysmal last term and someone the head coach wants to get rid of.

The other players making the trip who will be wearing brand new numbers include Diogo Dalot (2), Chido Obi (32) and Tyler Fredricson (33).

Plenty of academy involvement

As expected, there will be plenty of academy involvement with the likes of Reece Munro, Godwill Kukonki, Jack Fletcher, Sekou Kone, Ethan Williams, and Bendito Mantato all making the trip.

It will be a chance for them to catch the Portuguese coach’s eye and hopefully earn a spot in the US pre-season tour squad.

The team will be wearing the new away kit for the clash against Daniel Farke’s men. Kick off is at 14:00 BST.

Full squad: Goalkeepers: Altay Bayindir, Tom Heaton, Dermot Mee.

Defenders: Diogo Dalot, Noussair Mazraoui, Matthijs de Ligt, Harry Maguire, Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu, Leny Yoro, Luke Shaw, Ayden Heaven, Diego Leon, Tyler Fredricson, Reece Munro, Godwill Kukonki.

Midfielders: Mason Mount, Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, Manuel Ugarte, Kobbie Mainoo, Jack Fletcher, Sekou Kone, Toby Collyer.

Forwards: Rasmus Hojlund, Matheus Cunha, Amad, Chido Obi, Ethan Williams, Bendito Mantato.
