Barcelona have intensified their interest in signing Manchester United winger Antony, as per reports.
Barca find themselves scrambling for a new winger after Nico Williams left them blindsided. The Spain international was strongly courted by the Blaugrana but he eventually decided to sign a new long-term deal at Athletic Club.
Hansi Flick remains keen on adding firepower to his attack, forcing the Spanish giants to look elsewhere.
According to Fichajes, Barcelona admire Luis Diaz and Marcus Rashford but “given the difficulties” in signing them, they are considering making a move for Antony.
It is claimed that the Brazilian’s name has “gained strength” at Camp Nou “in recent hours”.
After his struggles at United, Antony joined Real Betis on loan in the winter transfer window.
The ex-Ajax sensation enjoyed an encouraging campaign in Seville, notching nine goals and five assists in 26 appearances.
Despite his prolific stint in Spain, he remains out of Ruben Amorim’s plans and United are keen on cutting ties with him permanently.
The Spanish outlet suggest Barcelona are “seriously considering” his signing, especially as United are reportedly “willing to accept” an offer of around €35 million (£30.1m).
The 25-year-old Brazil international is considered “a more affordable option” by the La Liga champions. The Red Devils spent £81.3m to reunite him with Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford in the summer of 2022.
Antony remains keen on returning to Betis and playing under Manuel Pellegrini. However, it is believed he would consider the possibility of playing for Barcelona and challenging for the biggest trophies.
Rashford could find himself in a pickle if Barcelona make a move for Antony, as the Englishman has been “dreaming” of a move to Catalonia since January.
