No love lost as axed United star responds to brutal sacking of Ruben Amorim

Manchester United officially parted company with head coach Ruben Amorim this morning after a 1-1 draw at Elland Road on Sunday. However, the sacking is almost certainly related to a breakdown in communications between Amorim and the United hierarchy, rather than being a performance-related issue. The Portuguese coach delivered a spiky post-match press conference after the Leeds stalemate, which seemed to be aimed at his superiors with ambiguous statements surrounding his control at the club. Axed United star responds to sacking Amorim had been given the backing of the United board in the summer after a 15th-place Premier League finish and a drab Europa League final loss, either of which could well have been enough to seal his fate before his first full season in charge. Instead, Amorim shipped out the players he deemed unsuitable and was handed a war chest to the tune of over £200 million, which he splashed on a new-look front line. One of the players bombed out of Old Trafford was Alejandro Garnacho, who found his way to Stamford Bridge after falling out with the United head coach. Garnacho’s attitude was called into question a few times since his arrival into the first team, and Amorim’s no-nonsense approach left the winger surplus to requirements. There is clearly no love lost between the pair, with Garnacho responding to a social media post confirming Amorim’s departure from the Theatre of Dreams. Fabrizio Romano was one of many to announce the news that Amorim’s reign had come to an end, and the Argentine international wasted no time in reacting by liking the post. Amorim right to let Garnacho leave Old Trafford The numbers will not look back favourably on the outgoing head coach, but there is no doubting his push for higher standards at the club was more aligned with what should be expected at Old Trafford. Despite a few key moments, including the opener in the FA Cup final against Manchester City, Garnacho’s antics were not befitting of a young prodigy cutting his teeth at the biggest club in the world. On and off the pitch, strops were not backed up with consistent performances, and his early output at Chelsea has not done much to prove Amorim wrong in sanctioning his sale. Tensions came to breaking point after the Europa League final, with Garnacho going public on his disappointment at starting as a substitute and Amorim brutally telling him his days at United were numbered. However, petty actions such as this social media like only further cement that Amorim was right to let the 20-year-old go, despite his talent which could have seen him become a handy squad player at the club. Now, both will go on to careers outside of Manchester, with Amorim officially leaving the club after just 14 months in charge.
