Word stemming from the media this week suggests that the big-money takeover at Newcastle United looks set to give rise to an imminent change of design on the club’s jersey.

All change at St. James’ The news which shook the foundation of English football to its very core was of course forthcoming last Thursday.

This came in the form of Mike Ashley’s tumultuous 14-year stint at the forefront of Newcastle being brought to a definitive close.

On the back of a negotiation period spanning 18 months, the one final stumbling block – in the form of Saudi Arabia’s ban on all content stemming from broadcaster beIN Sports – was finally overcome, opening the door for a Saudi consortium led by Yasir Al-Rumayyan to kickstart a new era on Tyneside.

Newcastle, in turn, made word of the change in ownership at the club official on October 7th, in a deal worth a rumoured £300 million.

🤝 An investment group led by the Public Investment Fund, and also comprising PCP Capital Partners and RB Sports & Media, has completed the acquisition of 100% of Newcastle United Limited and Newcastle United Football Club Limited from St. James Holdings Limited.

Fun88 on the way out? The momentous changing of hands at St. James’ Park has since resulted in understandable jubilation across Newcastle’s loyal fanbase, with the Magpies faithful having long been crying out for an owner fit to reestablish a club of such unquestionable magnitude amongst the giants of Premier League football.

The incoming Saudi Investment Fund is known to boast stratospheric wealth in the region of £320 billion, with a financial flex by means of a transfer market splash therefore expected to be forthcoming as early as January.

As outlined above, though, changes in personnel, both on the managerial and player fronts, look set to prove far from the only shake-ups on Tyneside in the near future.

This comes with the club’s on-pitch attire expected to be affected, too.

As per a report from the reliable Footy Headlines (citing Magpie Media), Yasir Al-Rumayyan and co. are ‘currently exploring options to buy out the remainder of the Fun88 shirt sponsorship’.

Fun88 have acted as Newcastle’s jersey sponsor since 2017, and penned a new agreement with the club just last year.

However, with betting bans in place across Saudi Arabia, fans in the country will only be able to purchase Magpies jerseys without any form of sponsor for the time being.

In turn, the new team in charge at St. James’ have begun looking into alternative agreements, with Saudia, formerly known as Saudi Arabian Airlines, one source tipped as a potential shirt sponsor moving forward.
