Newcastle handed blow as Callum Wilson ruled out of Leeds clash

Newcastle’s poor start Both Newcastle and Leeds United have had a terrible start to the Premier League season. Without a win between them, Newcastle have just a solitary point, while Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds sit on two, following draws to Everton and, more recently, Burnley.

This lends Friday’s clash between the pair even more significance, with both sides desperate for a much needed three points to kickstart their season properly. Newcastle will be buoyed by the centre-back crisis Leeds face, but are not injury-free themselves.

Wilson ruled out but two players fit The Magpies have been dealt a major blow on the personnel front as it has emerged that Striker Callum Wilson will miss Friday’s clash with Leeds United. Steve Bruce revealed that the forward has suffered an injury setback just before he was set to return to match fitness.

However, he did suggest that it wouldn’t be a long term setback, saying that:

“These things are about time and, unfortunately, Friday comes too quick for him.”

On a more positive note, however, Javier Manquillo and Joe Willock have both shaken off knocks that they picked up in defeat to Manchester United last weekend, and should be fit to start against Leeds.

Bruce kicks his presser off with some good news…”Everybody has come through last w/e. We had one or two knocks (Manquillo / Willock / Clark) towards the end but thankfully everyone’s OK. Unfortunately it’s a bit too soon for Callum Wilson, Jonjo Shelvey and Paul Dummett.” #NUFC
