Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic has joked that he hopes not to be pestered by his family and friends for Cristiano Ronaldo’s shirt, following confirmation that the latter is to return to Old Trafford.

In a sensational tale of events, United have confirmed that they have reached an agreement with Juventus to re-sign Ronaldo, subject to him passing a medical and finalising personal terms.

The Portugal international, who is 36, seemed destined to join Manchester City earlier today, but United, who face Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux on Sunday afternoon, made a last-ditch attempt to secure Ronaldo’s signature after he spoke with Sir Alex Ferguson.

Ronaldo will now look to undergo a medical ahead of officially completing his return to Manchester.

His impending return to the club has, of course, been met with a wave of excitement and attention, not just from United’s supporters, but also from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s players as well.

A whole host of them have taken to social media to react to the news, posting messages and some even stressing their disbelief at United getting a a deal over the line for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.

Amongst them is midfielder enforcer Matic, who has reacted to Ronaldo’s impending switch to Old Trafford with a joke on his Instagram story.

Taking to Instagram, the Serbian wrote: “For all my family and friends! Don’t ask me for a jersey from Ronaldo,” accompanied with a laughing emoji.

Therefore, it is quite clear that Matic is expecting requests to come in for the Portuguese’s match-worn shirts this season.

It is guaranteed that shirts with Ronaldo’s name on the back will fly off the shelves once his return to United is officially signed, sealed and delivered.

However, it remains to be seen what shirt number he will acquire, with Edinson Cavani currently wearing No.7 and it not allowed to be swapped due to Premier League rules.
