MUTV pundit raves about ‘brilliant’ Manchester United player nobody was talking about after win v Everton

Manchester United kept a clean sheet in a win over a struggling Everton side at the weekend.

After two Premier League defeats to Fulham and City, Manchester United needed to get back on track against Everton.

The game went according to plan, with United recording a 2-0 win, scoring penalties via Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford, with Alejandro Garnacho fouled for both spot kicks.

The win keeps United’s hopes of a Champions League place alive, helped by Tottenham taking points off Aston Villa on Sunday.

Victor Lindelof praised

Goalkeeper Andre Onana kept his eighth Premier League clean sheet of the season, a number which has him in contention for the Golden Glove.

The entire defence played their part in the win, with veteran centre-back Jonny Evans most impressive.

One player who was picked out post-game for praise on MUTV was one who went under the radar, Swedish defender Victor Lindelof.

MORE UNITED STORIES

Lindelof has been filling in out of position with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia both out injured.

He was praised by former United prospect Fraizer Campbell, who told Matchday Review: “He was brilliant.

“He’s not let his man have time or space, [Jack] Harrison, who started on the right for them, he’s a good player, he could have caused us a lot of problems, he snuffed that out. He did really well.

“That’s exactly what the manager wants. He wants people he can trust when he picks them, whatever position they play in, to do a job for him. He’s demonstrating that by playing left-back.”

Another former United academy player was in full agreement, with Phil Bardsley praising the Swede.

Bardsley said: “I though Lindelof was fantastic playing out of position, it’s never easy, especially for a right footed player at left-back, and a centre-half. He was fantastic, alongside Jonny [Evans].

Left-back an issue for United

Manchester United have struggled at left-back all season long with Tyrell Malacia not playing a single minute due to injury.

Luke Shaw is now out for a fourth spell of the season, and another injury to Aaron Wan-Bissaka has meant United have only one fit full-back.

Lindelof and Sofyan Amrabat have both filled in at left-back in recent matches, keeping clean sheets in games against Forest and Everton.
