Mourinho blocks Sancho’s £25m move to Fenerbahce for the reason United fans have been dreading – report

Manchester United outcast Jadon Sancho will reportedly not be making a move to Fenerbahce after Jose Mourinho moved to axe the deal.

Sancho is on the hunt for a new club after Chelsea opted out of the loan obligation to make his stay a permanent one for £25m. Sancho has been a disastrous signing for United, making just 83 appearances for the club since his arrival from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2021.

In addition to his uninspiring performances, the England international fell out with former United boss Erik ten Hag, prompting his return to Dortmund for the second half of the 2023/25 campaign and then to Chelsea for the entirety of the last campaign.

He blew hot and cold at Stamford Bridge and Chelsea decided not to sign him permanently. For breaking the terms of the agreement with the Red Devils, Chelsea paid a £5m penalty fee.

Sancho has returned to Old Trafford, but he is not believed to be part of Amorim’s plans. The winger is also keen on a move, with United aiming to recover the majority of the fee they forked out to secure his services.

The 25-year-old has been linked to Juventus and Napoli, but his mega wage demands are proving to be a big problem. He is unwilling to compromise on his salary expectations and this is putting suitors off. There have been suggestions that Napoli have withdrawn from the race but talks remain ongoing with Juventus to try and reach a compromise.

Fenerbahce emerged as a surprise potential transfer destination for Sancho. A report covered by The Peoples Person claimed that the Turkish giants struck an agreement with Sancho’s camp and were set to approach United to try and negotiate a potential deal.

A subsequent report noted that Mourinho was considering adding Sancho to his ranks.

But, it appears there has been a drastic change in heart, which has halted whatever chances there were of Sancho sealing a switch to The Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium.

According to Fanatik, Fenerbahce did make an enquiry about Sancho, but Mourinho ultimately called off the move after uncovering some concerning details about the forward.

Fanatik suggests that Mourinho held discussions with Amorim, with whom he shares a close relationship, and that Sancho was one of the topics brought up during their conversation.

It’s unclear how these talks unfolded, but the Turkish outlet reports that Mourinho has since withdrawn his interest in Sancho, as he is not fond of players who appear motivated to join Fenerbahce primarily for financial reasons.

Mourinho is focused on bringing in players who are genuinely aligned with the club’s project and values. It was felt that Sancho did not share this vision. This is why “the transfer was suspended.”

Sancho has one year left on his United contract.
