Mbeumo’s contract details at United have a few surprises in them – Fabrizio Romano

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed a major contract detail regarding Bryan Mbeumo’s Manchester United terms after the club struck a deal with Brentford.

United reach agreement with Brentford for Mbeumo

After weeks of talks and frustrating delays, United have finally reached a full agreement with Brentford for Mbeumo.

United lodged an initial offer for the Cameroonian at the start of last month, which was swiftly rejected by the Bees as they valued him at around the £62.5m that was paid to Wolverhampton Wanderers for Matheus Cunha.

The Red Devils returned with an improved bid worth in excess of £60m but this too was rejected by the Bees, who hiked their asking price to £70m.

United remained in talks wit Brentford but made it clear they would not overpay for Mbeumo despite him being identified as a top target to bolster Ruben Amorim’s attacking options.

However, on Thursday, David Ornstein revealed that the Red Devils had sent in a third offer worth an initial £65m plus a further £5m in add-ons. It then emerged that there was growing optimism that this latest proposal would be accepted by Brentford.

Confirmation has since been given that Brentford have accepted the offer and subject to a medical, Mbeumo will become a United player.

Romano has now revealed the length of the 25-year-old’s contract at Old Trafford.

Romano gives update on Mbeumo’s United contract

The Italian journalist notes that Mbeumo will put pen to paper on a five-year deal, with the option of extending his stay at the club by an additional 12 months.

Romano wrote on X, “Bryan Mbeumo’s contract at Manchester United will be valid until June 2030 plus option until June 2031.”

“Man United wanted the +1 option and it’s been included in the agreement.”

The Daily Mail’s Chris Wheeler points out that Mbeumo will be part of United’s travelling squad for their upcoming pre-season tour in the United States.

Understand that Bryan Mbeumo is unlikely to link up with his new Man Utd teammates for the opening friendly v Leeds in Stockholm tomorrow after Brentford accepted an offer of £65m + £6m in add-ons, but he is set to go on the club’s US tour next week #mufc
