Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s rumoured exit from Manchester United has picked up the pace this week after more horrendous results in the hot seat at Old Trafford. Eric ten Hag, Ralf Rangnick and Zinedine Zidane have all been linked with the job in recent weeks, while ex-Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has been this week’s big link. Yet despite reportedly being interested, the Argentine would refuse to work under Rangnick should the German be appointed as a director, according to the Independent.

Pochettino took the Paris Saint-Germain job in early 2020 having been sacked from Tottenham Hotspur just months earlier.

His reign at Tottenham immensely boosted his profile in the game, having taken the club from Europa League regulars to the Champions League final.

He was linked with a move to the Red Devils after his eventual sacking from Tottenham in November 2019, but United chiefs stuck with Solskjaer after a decent spell of form.

However, with results deteriorating at Old Trafford, United are reportedly starting to sound out potential replacements for Solskjaer should their already horrendous situation fail to improve.

And Pochettino is one of those on the list. However, he would reportedly not want to work under Rangnick, who will only take the job temporarily if he can become a director after his time in the dugout is over.

Rangnick has been credited with revolutionising German coaching, giving managers such as Jurgen Klopp and Julien Nagelsmann a platform to work with.

He has previous managerial experience at clubs such as Leipzig, Stuttgart and Schalke which could make him the ideal candidate to take over at United for the foreseeable future.

Yet as he is currently in a role as Lokomotiv Moscow’s head of development, he would not want to give up the role just to manage United for a short amount of time before another boss comes in.

United would have to promise him a future director role in order to tempt him into the temporary job.

And this is something that would scupper their chances of appointing Pochettino as boss, with the Argentine not interested in working under him.

Pochettino, 49, failed to win Ligue 1 last season after Lille romped to the title.

Yet his side are already 10 points clear of second-placed Lens, giving Pochettino a brilliant chance to land his first-ever league title as a manager.

United have endured a poor start to life in the Premier League despite a promising opening run of games.

United romped to four wins from five as Cristiano Ronaldo exerted his excellence following a move from Juventus.

But just four points from six games since has left United languishing in sixth and Solskjaer fighting for his future.
