Manchester United’s name is being thrown into the mix amid confusion over a departing Premier League star.

A fortnight ago it was announced that one of the Premier League’s most-exciting players had agreed an exit.

Michael Olise had surprised everybody by deciding to move to German giants Bayern Munich, with a £50.7 million fee being agreed.

But the deal is not quite complete, and Manchester United are said to still be involved…

What is going on with Michael Olise

Bayern Munich are yet to complete the deal for Michael Olise. It seems like it is just the formalities taking their time. But United’s name is now being mentioned…

Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reports: “Been told that the transfer of Michael Olise to FC Bayern is not in jeopardy at this stage!

“Bayern want to finalize the deal as quickly as possible. Because many clubs are trying to hijack the transfer, including Manchester United. But Olise remains clear as he wants to sign a contract with Bayern until 2029! #MUFC

“There are still small details to be clarified between the clubs. The medical was actually supposed to take place this week. Now it is planned for the coming week!”

What we think of the Michael Olise claims

While this is an interesting claim, Manchester United suddenly making a late for Michael Olise is not one we are buying into right now.

As Plettenberg states, the deal taking him to Bayern Munich is not actually believed to be ‘in jeopardy’, while the player looks to be determined to secure the move.

United might simply have said they would be interested if a deal fell through, rather than actively trying to cause a late change in plans.

In any case, Olise is not playing at a position where United are desperate for reinforcements this summer.

He would be a luxury signing, with priorities needed at centre-back, striker, central midfield, and left-back.

This is where United should be focused on right now, not chasing a winger whose heart is set on playing in the Bundesliga.
