Manchester United transfer news LIVE

Manchester United have one more day to prepare before their final friendly in Spain against Real Betis.

Erik ten Hag’s side ran out 4-2 losers against Cadiz on Wednesday despite goals from Anthony Martial and Kobbie Mainoo. The biggest United this week happened off the pitch, though, on Thursday.

The Glazer family have not taken their semi-annual dividend from Manchester United, the club’s latest financial results have disclosed.

Sources say the decision reflected factors including the significant investment made in the squad in the summer. United invested £225.4m in signings in the last transfer window.

Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has admitted his club has been interested in Marcus Rashford before and could be again next year.

The last dividend payments took the total payments to £155m in seven years and the policy has angered United supporters who have criticised the Glazer family for siphoning off the club rather than investing in it.

Patrice Evra claims Roy Keane is wrong about Brazil’s dancing celebrations

Speaking to Betfair, Evra has disagreed with Keane’s claim that Brazil’s choreographed dance celebrations were disrespectful.

Brazil is Brazil. I know Roy Keane wasn’t happy and said they weren’t respecting the other team by dancing, but if you know Brazil, they dance every single day. I don’t understand why people think it’s disrespectful. I think it’s a joy.

Ronaldinho was dancing on the pitch when he played and that’s what people pay for. Even if they score 10 goals and they do that dance, as a fan I love it, it makes me smile. I don’t think it’s disrespectful.

Of course, if I’m playing against them and I see them dancing, maybe some tackles would fly, because we’re all human.

In football we have a lot of respect, but we also like to express our joy when we’re happy. If I was losing 3-0 and I saw a player doing some tricks, my first reaction would be to put a tackle in, but this is football. I love banter, I like to make fun of people and I want football to make fun of me.

Football Benchmark, who provide in-depth understanding and analysis of the business of football, have sent a warning to any potential buyers of the club.

Andrea Sartori, Football Benchmark chief executive, said: “Can a club like Manchester United FC be really sold at £5-7bn, or even higher, as speculated by some of the press? The gap between the rumoured transaction price and the theoretical value of Manchester United FC appears enormous.

Former Sir Alex Ferguson assistant makes Cristiano Ronaldo claim

The former United man made the headlines once again after reports emerged that the 37-year-old apparently threatened to walk away from the national side upon finding out he was a substitute for the 6-1 win over Switzerland.

This has since been refuted by Portugal’s FA, yet the veteran’s displeasure was clear to see inside the Lusail Stadium.

Ferguson’s former assistant, Rene Meulensteen, has now revealed that he is relieved not to be coaching Ronaldo following on from the latest incident.

City midfielder responds to French media mocking Maguire

Ahead of tomorrow’s quarter-final with France, the French’s media have mocked Maguire and pinpointed him as England’s weak link.

However, Kalvin Phillips has come to the aide of his international teammate in the press.

He said:

Harry’s not played as much football as he probably would have liked this season and got a lot of stick, which I think is very undeserved. He’s a top professional and a great footballer. When he plays for Manchester United he’s one of the best defenders. For England, he’s been one of the top defenders for a long time, especially at tournaments. He’s always been that player when we have set pieces or we need to block or to make a challenge, he’s always the first one to do it. He’s always the first one to get his head to the ball. He’s scored some very important goals as well. For a lot of people, because he has been mocked quite a lot, he’s the first one they go to. If anything bad happened in the England team, he’d be the first person anything would be said about. It’s undeserved.

United ‘have been calling’ Louis van Gaal amid Gakpo interest

This is an interesting one.

The Mirror report that United have been calling Louis van Gaal during the World Cup, sparking suggestions they want permission from their former boss to talk to Cody Gakpo.

The report says Van Gaal left his phone in a hotel toilet in Doha and that it was discovered by a Dutch journalist who pressed the power button in a bid to find out who had misplaced it.

It is suggested that the journalist was greeted by a screenshot of Van Gaal and his wife Truus along with notifications indicating two missed calls – with a caller ID that said ‘Manchester United.’

PSG president makes Marcus Rashford transfer admission

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has admitted his club has been interested in Marcus Rashford before and could be again next year.

“He’s another player that is really amazing,” Al-Khelaifi told Sky Sports News when asked about the possibility of PSG signing Rashford as he is a ‘free agent’. “And for free? To have Rashford for free, every club would run after him, definitely.

“We’re not hiding it, we spoke before and… interest. But the moment was not a good moment for both sides. Maybe, summer, why not?

“Today if he’s a free agent of course we can talk to him directly but we are not going to talk to him now. Let him focus on the World Cup. Then after in January, hopefully, if we’re interested we will talk to him.”

Ronaldo’s defiant message amid reports he wanted to ‘walk out’ on Portugal World Cup squad

Cristiano Ronaldo has said the Portugal squad is a ‘group too close to be broken by outside forces’ as he hit back at reports he wanted to leave the international team during the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

Portugal are through to the quarter-finals of the tournament after they obliterated Switzerland 6-1 to set up a quarter-final date with Morrocco. Though he didn’t score, former Manchester United striker Ronaldo remained in the headlines as manager Fernando Santos made the brave call not to start him in the game.

It was the first time Ronaldo hadn’t started an international knockout match since 2008 but Santos’ decision was vindicated as his replacement, young striker Goncalo Ramos, scored the opener and went on to net an excellent hat trick. The No.7 came on for the final minutes and scored before the offside flag ruled it out.

Here’s what he said.

Why Glazers did not take Manchester United dividend for first time since 2016

The Glazer family have not taken their semi-annual dividend from Manchester United, the club’s latest financial results have disclosed.

The Glazer family confirmed they were open to ending their 17-and-a-hald year ownership of United on November 22 as part of “a process to explore strategic alternatives for the club”.

In the previous financial results that were posted in September for the year up to June 30 2022, United paid £33.6million out in dividends, mostly to the Glazer family, which was up by more than £20m on the previous year.

Here are all the details.

PSG president makes transfer admission on Manchester United star Marcus Rashford

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has admitted his club has been interested in Marcus Rashford before and could be again next year.

The Manchester United star has returned to his best this season after a difficult last campaign, sitting top of the side’s scoring charts with eight. Rashford is also enjoying a strong World Cup with England, scoring three times in the Three Lions’ march to the quarter-finals.

There were suggestions last season during Rashford’s struggles that he might look to leave Old Trafford amid inconsistent playing time. PSG was one club who held an interest.

Here’s what he said.
