Manchester United are showing interest in Ivan Toney and the striker has a chance to make an impression.

It has been a big week for Ivan Toney, who got to share the pitch with Kobbie Mainoo as they both made their first England starts on Tuesday night.

Toney scored a penalty from a move started off by United wonderkid Mainoo, in England’s 2-2 draw with Belgium.

This coming weekend Toney will be on the opposing team to Mainoo when Brentford host Manchester United on Saturday night.

The Brentford striker is emerging as a player on Manchester United’s radar for the summer, with the Red Devils looking to add another frontman as a replacement for Anthony Martial.

HITC report Manchester United have been ‘making checks’ on Ivan Toney with a view to a summer transfer move.

It is reported Toney is one of the options being considered by United, who are exploring whether to sign an experienced forward to share the load with Rasmus Hojlund.

The alternative is to sign another young striker like Benjamin Sesko, with United exploring a plan of action.

Toney scored 20 goals in 33 games last season and has netted four goals in 10 games so far in 2024 since returning from a ban.

The 27-year-old is able to lead the line as a lone striker and has proven his ability to make an impact against top teams, scoring a winner against City last season.

This coming weekend Toney will take on Manchester United, who are looking for a very different result to last season’s shocking 4-0 defeat away at Brentford.

This is a potential deal worth paying serious attention to. The Mirror reported in early February that Toney is admired by manager Erik ten Hag.

What Toney has said about Manchester United

Ivan Toney is keen to take the next step in his career and play for a club with European football, and maximise his peak years.

A former teammate of Christian Eriksen, Toney told the Diary of a CEO podcast: “Everyone wants to play at the top of the tree. Not that Brentford aren’t there, but everyone wants to play for these big clubs and compete for trophies.

“If a chance was to come along, I would be silly not to look into it. The manager knows that I want to play at the highest level possible and whenever that time comes, so be it. My time at Brentford has been probably the best of my career. The next club I go to will be the right club.”

He added: “I liked Berbatov. I liked watching United a lot when Berbatov was there, too.”
