Manchester United told to swoop for David Moyes in sensational managerial return – Manchester Evening News

Mark Lawrenson has tipped David Moyes to make a sensational return to Manchester United as manager.

The former United boss’ stock is rising as his West Ham side continue to impress after securing European football last season, and look set to be in the challenge for a top four place once again.

His resurgence as a manager has coincided with a time in which his former side are losing ground on the Premier League’s top sides, with the Hammers just one of the sides that look to have overtaken United.

With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer facing mounting pressure over his position at Old Trafford, Moyes’ name has been touted for a potential – if unlikely – return.

Moyes was, of course, chosen as Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor back in 2013, although he wouldn’t last a season in charge as he struggled to live up to the expectations of his predecessor.

But with the former United boss going from strength to strength with West Ham, most recently beating Liverpool 3-2 on Sunday afternoon, former Anfield hero Lawrenson has tipped Moyes to make a sensational return.

“Unless they’re actually going to go and buy a manager, who are you going to get?” Lawrenson told Off The Ball.

“Would he be able to solve the problem? I think he’s at the right club for him, most definitely.

“I just don’t see where they would go. If anybody at the moment, you’d want Moyesey back would you not?

“I’m half-joking, but what I’m saying is you’d have him basically because he would sort all this out.

“He never really got the time there, and he never was going to get the time because he was the first one after Ferguson.

“I think the issue was on the second day, Vidic told him he’d verbally agreed to go and play in Italy, Evra was going as well, and Rio Ferdinand was struggling in terms of the pace of the game, so he’d lost three of the back four within two or three days.

“There was a little bit of ‘you’re coming from Everton and telling us how to play’ but there always will be.

“I just honestly don’t know who they would go and get, I really seriously don’t.”
