Manchester United have been told that they must pay somewhere between €45-50million (£38-43m) to stand any chance of signing highly-rated AS Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni.
That is according to a report by Italian news outlet Tuttosport, as cited by the Mirror, who claim that Monaco will refuse any offer below that price.
Tchouameni, who will turn 22 into January, is one of the most highly-rated players in the world and is being linked with an array of big-name clubs across Europe.
United, who will resume their Premier League campaign with a trip to Vicarage Road to face Watford a week on Saturday, are likely to try and bring in a new central defensive-midfielder next year after failing to land one during the summer.
However, if Paul Pogba leaves the club in January or next summer, United may be in need of another one, with it possible that they may turn to Pogba’s international team-mate, Tchouameni.
United, reportedly, hold a firm interest in the Frenchman, but have been told that they will have to equal Monaco’s demands to stand any chance of getting a deal over the line.
Despite only being 21, the Frenchman has already made 65 senior appearances for Monaco and has won five first-team caps for France.
Meanwhile, Spanish outfit Sevilla are plotting a January move for United striker Edinson Cavani, a report by Fichajes claims.
The Uruguayan international, who has scored one goal in eight appearances in all competitions so far this season, is out-of-contract Old Trafford in less than a year’s time and question marks currently surround his future.
With the 34-year-old’s current deal now less than a year away from reaching its conclusion, it is reported that Sevilla are plotting an ambitious move for the striker.
Sevilla want to sign him in January and given that his contract, at that point, will only be six months away from expiring, they may fancy their chances of signing him in a cut-price deal. They could sign him on a pre-contract agreement in January ahead of a summer switch, but Sevilla would like him to join the club mid-season.
Cavani has made a total of 47 appearances for the Reds, netting 18 goals.
