According to the Metro, Manchester United are targeting Barcelona youngster Mikayil Faye this summer and have already deployed scouts to watch the African defender.

The Red Devils have started planning for the upcoming transfer window. Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants to get the maximum benefit of the window period and convince clubs to sell their players cheaply.

John Murtough travelled to Barcelona to meet Matt Judge earlier this month. He also travelled to Madrid to meet with Atletico and Real Madrid’s representatives.

The Old Trafford outfit wants to sign a new defender amid uncertainties surrounding their current options.

Jonny Evans is likely to leave the club this summer. Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Raphael Varane and Tyrell Malacia’s injury issues have brought more headaches.

Barcelona’s Faye has been considered an ideal long-term investment for the club. The Senegalese has already received his first national call and scored a goal in his recent match against Gabon.

United have sent scouts to watch his performance as they believe that the 19-year-old can be a top player in the future. Faye can operate as a centre-back and a left-back.

The youngster scored a wonder goal for his national side and the future looks bright for the Barca ace.

This is a useful skill for the English giants since they have faced issues in both of these positions. Barca may ask for a fee of around £25 million for the young star.

He is yet to make his senior debut for the La Liga side, but he has played well for their B team. We expect the Spanish club to stick to their price tag since they rejected a £13m offer from Nice and Lyon last summer.

Bayer Leverkusen and Inter Milan are also closely monitoring the player and this makes this race even more interesting. Man United are focusing on recruiting youngsters since this strategy has helped them for the past few seasons.

Alejandro Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo and Rasmus Hojlund are the best examples of players who have been given regular chances at such a young age. All these players have flourished and have been a mainstay in Ten Hag’s starting XI.

The club needs to invest in young defenders since they have been taking a lot of risk by signing veteran defenders. Faye could be an excellent long-term signing for the PL elites.
