Manchester United Women endured a dramatic journey to in a friendly match in Malta on Friday when the road underneath a bus taking the squad to the game collapsed. A wheel at the back of the bus was broken due to a large pothole that emerged as they arrived at the Tony Bezzina stadium, to face Birkirkara according to the Malta Independent. No players were injured, the match started on time, and United went on to thrash Birkirkara, the champions of Malta, 10-0 in their friendly fixture to cap off their mid-season training camp on the island. Goals from Alessia Russo, Vilde Boe Risa, Lucia Garcia, Grace Clinton, Jade Moore, Nikita Parris, Rachel Williams and Martha Thomas secured the win for United after being 6-0 up at the halftime whistle. The squad had a day off to enjoy Malta and before returning to England to prepare for the restart of Women’s Super League action against Liverpool on Sunday January 15 at Leigh Sports Village.
