Manchester United remain in the market for Leon Goretzka and have not given up hope they can sign the Bayern Munich and Germany midfielder – according to reports.
Speculation over the future of Goretzka, 26, continues to mount as he prepares to enter the final 12 months of his contract at the Allianz Arena.
Bayern want to continue talks with the former Schalke player, but it has proved to be a slow process.
In effect, that has reopened the door for United to continue their would-be pursuit.
That’s according to journalist Tobi Altschaffl, who has shed light on the Goretzka situation and compared it to the terms that are closing to being struck up between the Bundesliga side and Joshua Kimmich – a teammate for both club and country.
Posting on Twitter, he said: “Kimmich’s clear future (new contract until 2026 will be signed soon) sends a positive signal to his colleagues. The talks with Goretzka were resumed and went very well; a quick agreement with the midfielder is now possible. Man United still very interested in a Goretzka deal.”
This stance has been backed up by German publication Bild – although that report suggests Goretzka is keen for a new contract to be struck up with Bayern on account of how highly he is rated by recently-appointed head coach Julian Nagelsmann.
Meanwhile, United have supposedly suffered a blow to their chances of signing Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid.
According to a report published by The Sun, the Spanish champions are refusing to lower the price tag for the 30-year-old England international – insisting that United pay his £34million release clause in full.
Jadon Sancho is in the bag but what about the latest on Raphael Varane, Kieran Trippier, Declan Rice and Eduardo Camavinga?

United have been linked with a swoop for the ex-Burnley and Tottenham man throughout the summer.
It’s understood they were only willing to pay £18million for his services, though, which falls someway short of the demands set by the La Liga side.
However, the report also underlines what MEN Sport understands: that Trippier is keen on a move back to the Premier League during the ongoing transfer window.
