Manchester United news and transfers LIVE Solskjaer sacking latest as Man Utd ‘prepare’ to sell Pogba – Manchester Evening News

The international break is only a day old but Manchester United have already suffered an injury blow.

Midfielder Paul Pogba limped out of France training on Monday after appearing to injury his right thigh. In a video released by French publication RMC Sport, Pogba can be heard loudly shouting in pain after shooting and then immediately clutching his upper leg.

There has also been an update on the fitness of Edinson Cavani, who was ruled out of the Manchester derby on Saturday.

Uruguay left Cavani out of their squad before Saturday’s game versus Manchester City and his injury has now been confirmed.

“The issue was like this. Before starting the season, I had discomfort in the tendon,” Cavani told El Observador. “It made me spend a couple of weeks out until I began to gain some minutes [on the pitch] in my team. I had to go back to the national team, always with a bit of pain, but with the hope that it would disappear.

“They are difficult injuries and I decided to have the treatment so that it does not continue to get worse.

What Manchester United must do during the international breakManchester United’s biggest decision for the international break already looks like it had been made with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer still backed by the club despite humiliating home defeats to Liverpool and Man City.

It already looks like United have thrown away their chance to win the Premier League title this season, but as things stand the board are behind the manager and he looks set to take charge of the next match against Watford at least.

The November international break is the ideal opportunity to make a managerial switch given there is not another one until March, while an early appointment can give any new manager the best part of two weeks to get to work in their new role.

United figures will likely argue Solskjaer was only handed a new deal back in the summer, is only five points off Liverpool and could yet win the Champions League and FA Cup this season. On the other hand, many fans have been quick to point out things could also get much worse.

Cavani, 34, has been plagued with injury problems since his move to United on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain last year.

The centre-forward started against Tottenham in the Reds’ 3-0 win in October, looking excellent alongside Cristiano Ronaldo but, despite him making a substitute appearance against Atalanta in the Champions League, he was ruled out of the Manchester derby.
