Manchester United must unleash trio against Wolves in new look XI – United In Focus – Manchester United FC News

Manchester United are unlikely to line-up against Wolves with the same starting XI which faced Southampton.

Certain aspects of that performance were poor, a big step backwards from the energy of the opening weekend win over Leeds.

Scott McTominay’s injury and operation means he will be unavailable.

One is the rarely used Donny van de Beek, who cost the club £35 million and has been overlooked for the two opening games of this season.

McTominay’s injury forces United’s hand, with midfield options a little lighter.

Nemanja Matic was poor at the weekend and this gives United an opening to bring Van de Beek in to partner Fred.

Van de Beek excelled against Wolves away from home last season at the end of the campaign.

Then we come to United’s two summer signings, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane, who cost £73 million and £38 million respectively.

Sancho has played twice as a substitute and should be nearing his first start. United should look to do so here at Wolves before the international break.

Raphael Varane has also had two weeks of training under his belt now ahead of the fixture. He was on the bench last weekend.

Dropping Victor Lindelof may seem harsh, but United could benefit from adding the freshness Varane can bring.

Leadership and quality United’s performance against Southampton just lacked a spark. It is time to shake it up.

Varane, Sancho, and Van de Beek cost a combined £146 million. This is too big an investment for United to continue to leave on the bench.

Varane and Van de Beek bring international and Champions League experience into the team, while Sancho is a prodigious talent who is ready to start showing the Premier League what he can do.

Add these three players in alongside Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, and Mason Greenwood leading the line, and United will have a truly exciting XI.

A new look United side could be exactly what the fanbase needs right now to try and end August on a high note.
