Manchester United have reportedly prioritised three significant signings this summer to help get the club back on the trail to glory. The Manchester Evening News has reported that United will look at signing a central defender, a midfielder and a forward this summer.

There could be some major outgoings too if United get interest in a number of players that could be lucrative for the club and support their transfer budget. It is what needs to happen though as the club has never been rebuild properly. Hundreds of millions of pounds have been wasted.

Obviously one of the major factors at the club is whether the manager, Erik ten Hag will continue in his role after two-years at the club – which has seen the Dutchman win both the Carabao Cup and the Emirates FA Cup – but the football has not been great and injuries have been a problem.

But United need to decide whether Ten Hag will be given his final year at the club or whether they will part ways and head to pastures new to find a system that works for the club and the players and one which can see United start to return to the glory days of the past – which is the difficult part.

United will need to start coming up with a plan this summer though as the management situation will need to be resolved in order for the club to bring in new players to spearhead another new era at the club, or they would feel less inclined to come to a club like United with no direction.

United will need more that the three significant signings talked about here as players will be leaving the club this summer with Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial already confirming their departures with the likes of Tom Heaton and Jonny Evans also out of contract this summer.

To add to that, Christian Eriksen, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Scott McTominay, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Amad Diallo and Willy Kambwala will be heading into the final years of their contracts – so it would be the final chance to sell those this summer for decent transfer fees.

That is what United need to be doing – getting rid of any player who does not benefit the club – and there are loads of them at the club right now. Getting this done this summer and seeing a structure starting to come into place is imperative of this club if they want success in the future.
