Manchester United failed in an attempt to sign Bayern Munich star Corentin Tolisso during the January transfer window – according to reports.
The Reds were desperate to strengthen their midfield options during the winter transfer period following injuries to Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay in December.
Eventually, United landed Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon after weeks of speculation but reports in Germany suggest Tolisso was targeted prior to landing the Portuguese playmaker.
Tolisso has struggled to break into the starting XI at the Allianz Arena this season but Bayern were unwilling to loan out the 25-year-old due to concerns over squad depth.
The report claims Bayern didn’t want to leave themselves thin on cover in centre midfield without profiting in some way which prompted United to intensify their interest in Fernandes.
Elsewhere, reports state United are looking to take advantage of the contract situation regarding Arsenal youngster Bukayo Saka.
The 18-year-old has made 15 Premier League appearances for the Gunners this season but has entered the final 18 months of his contract at the Emirates Stadium.
The Mail claim that Arsenal are concerned about losing their youngster with United and Liverpool said to be monitoring his situation along with Bayern Munich.
It claims Saka earns £3,000-per-week prompting Arsenal to enter talks over improving his terms.
He has featured heavily under both Unai Emery and Mikel Arteta on the left side, often filling in at left-back following injuries to Sead Kolasinac and Kieran Tierney.
Finally, United reportedly face competition from Chelsea to land Birmingham starlet Jude Bellingham.
The Reds are interested in a move for the 16-year-old who has impressed in the Championship this season.
Chelsea have now joined the race for his signature if reports from The Sun are to be believed.
Frank Lampard has already sealed one piece of business for the summer window, landing Hakim Ziyech from Ajax, and is believed to be a huge admirer of Bellingham.
