Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville could have a future in parliament according to football fans on Twitter.

The former defender, now a pundit on Sky Sports, has been very outspoken this week on his personal account on social media calling out Prime Minister Boris Johnson and other members of the government for their part in handling the covid-19 pandemic.

One unhappy football fan responded to one such tweet telling the former England international to stick to football, with Neville responding back quickly that he was “average at football!” and therefore would continue.

Several fans of United and even rival clubs jumped to his defence on social media, with many even claiming that they see a future for him in Johnson’s role as leader of the country alongside current United star Marcus Rashford.

Rashford has been praised over the last 12 months for his brilliant campaigns to help children in poverty to earn free school meals even when schools were closed due to the pandemic, going against the government and forcing a U-turn from the Prime Minister.

Neville is currently one of the owners of League Two outfit Salford City and also owns Hotel Football, which overlooks Old Trafford as well as being a pundit for Sky Sports regularly.

He offered up his hotel to the NHS to help ease the demand at the peak of the pandemic while also refusing to furlough any staff at Salford too.
