Manchester United fans fume after Lisandro Martinez World Cup decision

Manchester United fans have been left livid after finding out that Lisandro Martinez has been dropped to the bench for Argentina’s World Cup semi-final with Croatia on Tuesday night. Martinez has quickly become a star at Old Trafford since arriving from Ajax in the summer. Despite a difficult start where his height came into question, the 24-year-old put in a mammoth performance against Liverpool and has not looked back since. His form for the Reds earned him a place in the Argentina squad for the World Cup. However, on several occasions this tournament, he has not featured for the South American side. Following the game, several of his international colleagues rushed to Instagram to praise him with Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez branding him an ‘animal’. But, for tonight’s crucial clash with Croatia, Scaloni has decided to drop Martinez to the bench. Argentina have changed their formation for the game in Lusail reverting back to a 4-4-2. Cristian Romero and Nicolas Otamendi have been chosen as the two central defenders with midfielder Leandro Paredes coming into a four-man midfield. Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez will partner Lionel Messi up front as they look to overcome a tough Croatian side. United supporters have taken to Twitter to slam Scaloni’s tactics and have even suggested that they are now routing for Croatia. Here is what some fans had to say. As for Croatia, RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol will partner Dejan Lovren at the back in a 4-3-3. Gvardiol has been linked with a move to United this week as they continue to try and strengthen their defence.
