TOP OF THE POGS

Paris St Germain are reportedly willing to pay Paul Pogba over £500,000-a-week to sign him.

The France international has been linked with a move away from the Manchester giants for months after failing to agree a new contract.

He has entered the final 12 months of his current deal and has so far failed to agree an extension.

Now The Telegraph claims that PSG are willing to offer him a mega package to get him on a free transfer at the end of the season.

The report states the French giants are willing to pay him £510,000-a-week to get his signature.

Many believed that Pogba could depart United this summer so that they could secure a transfer fee.

MOR SIGNINGS?

Manchester United have made contact with to sign Ilaix Moriba as Barcelona’s problems mount up, according to 90Min.

The highly rated 18-year-old has been banished to the reserves this year after refusing to extend his contract at Camp Nou, leaving Barcelona fearing they may need to find a buyer before he leaves for free next summer.

There is no shortage of interest in Ilaix, who has long been monitored by the likes of United, Chelsea, and Manchester City and sources have confirmed to 90min that they are three of several English sides who have held talks over signing the talented teenager.

Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have all spoken to Ilaix’s representatives, and it is understood that West Ham, Leicester, Wolves and Everton have all been offered the 18-year-old in recent weeks.

‘A SPECIAL LAD’

West Ham coach Stuart Pearce says the Hammers are still hoping to see Jesse Lingard return to the club before the close of the transfer window.

The England international scored nine goals and made five assists in 16 games on loan for West Ham last season but has returned to Manchester United keen to make a mark this season.

Lingard was absent from the United squad for their opening day win over Leeds United after contracting coronavirus but manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said the midfielder has a big part to play this season.

Pearce told talkSPORT: “We would like him to come and join us. That has been an open secret. He was wonderful last year.

“The ball is in Manchester United’s court. He is contracted to them. We would like him with us, there is no doubt about that.

“He’s a special lad and was very good around the players, the players really like him. His ability shone out last year and gave us a great option in our squad.

“You never know, but at this moment in time it looks like he is fighting for a place in the United line-up.”

RIP

Ex-Manchester United director and chairman of British Swimming Maurice Watkins CBE has died aged 79.

British Swimming confirmed the news this morning, saying: “British Swimming is saddened to hear of the death of our chairman, Maurice Watkins CBE, aged 79.

“All of our thoughts and condolences go out to his family and friends at this difficult time.”

Former United chairman Martin Edwards invited Watkins to become a director of the Red Devils back in 1984 at the same time as Sir Bobby Charlton and he was influential in the appointment of Sir Alex Ferguson in 1986.

Seven years later he joined the PLC board after the club was floated on the stock market.

Malcolm Glazer then opposed Watkins’ re-election to the PLC board at an AGM in 2005 and had him de-listed once he had completed his takeover of United and made it a private company again.

He has also represented clubs and players before Fifa, Uefa, the Football Association and Premier League disciplinary bodies.

DIALLO UPDATE

FC Basel are reportedly interested in Manchester United midfielder Amad Diallo.

The Ivory Coast international is set to be loaned out this season following the arrival of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund. United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is eager to see Amad’s progress maintained and favours a loan move away for the youngster.

Via Fotboll Transfers, Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano said: “Amad Diallo is expected to leave Manchester United on loan this summer. FC Basel and Crystal Palace have been asking for Amad on loan until 2022.

“Also Bundesliga and other Premier League clubs in the race. No decision has been made yet.”

VARY HAPPY

Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire believes the arrival of Raphael Varane will help bolster the team’s mentality.

The World Cup winning centre-half was presented to the club’s fans on Saturday before their win over Leeds.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had been seeking to add a defensive partner for Maguire and the England centre-half is excited about Varane’s arrival.

Maguire said: “You’ve seen what he’s won over his career.

“He’s played in some of the top teams about – the French squad and Real Madrid – and he’s won absolutely everything.

“I think he’ll bring that winning mentality and his footballing ability to the club. To bring in players of his calibre is really, really exciting.”

“It boosts our defensive options. We’ve got an amazing number of centre-backs now, all internationals who are all proven in the Premier League.”

GOING TO LINGER

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has again insisted Jesse Lingard has a big role to play at Manchester United.

The Red Devils opened their campaign with a thumping 5-1 win over Leeds, but Lingard was not involved in the game.

Lingard was not even on the bench but Solskjaer maintains that he intends to give him minutes this season after his fine spell at West Ham on loan.

The Irons hope he will be able to make the move to east London but Solskjaer’s latest comments from may pour cold water on any deal.

Speaking after the Leeds game the United boss said: “Don’t forget Jesse Lingard who has re-invented himself and has come back the man that we know he is with the quality.

“He is going to play a big part as well.”

LEVITT TO LEAVE

Blackburn Rovers are said to hold an interest in signing Manchester United midfielder Dylan Levitt on loan this summer, as per a recent report by the Lancashire Telegraph.

The 20-year-old is currently one of a cluster of youngsters at Old Trafford who has been made available for loan this season and as a result he could well make a temporary move to Ewood Park.

A Welsh international, Levitt has already spent time on loan with the likes of Charlton Athletic and NK Istra 1961 in Croatia and would surely jump at the chance to get more first team minutes under his belt.

It is thought that the midfielder is on a long list of loan targets that Tony Mowbray is mulling over as he looks to add depth and quality to the Blackburn ranks

CASH IN TIME

Flamengo have reportedly made Manchester United an offer for Andreas Pereira to sign the midfielder on loan with an option to buy.

The ‘negotiations are going well’ and Flamengo have the support of Pereira’s agent, Kia Joorabchian, in ‘persuading’ Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side to accept the offer.

Pereria welcomes the move as it’ll give him an opportunity to draw the attention of the national team manager, Tite. Flamengo, for now, are ‘awaiting a response’ from the Old Trafford club.

TNT Sports also report interest from Everton in the player this summer, and United look set to cash in on the Brazilian.

POG OFF?

Real Madrid have been handed a major boost in pursuit of French midfielder Paul Pogba, who is ready to run down his Manchester United contract.

According to the Daily Star, Manchester United continue to be in a precarious situation over the future of Paul Pogba.

The French midfielder is ready to play out the final year of his contract at Old Trafford before joining Real Madrid in next summer’s transfer window.

Real Madrid hold a long-standing interest in Pogba, which stretches back to before he returned to Manchester United. Pogba, too, has reacted favourably to the interest from Los Blancos, claiming that it is his dream to play for the Spanish giants.

So, the news that the French midfielder wishes to run down his Manchester United contract to join them will certainly appeal to the Merengues.

LOAN MOVE

Manchester United youngster Ethan Laird has completed his medical tests ahead of a season-long loan move to Swansea City.

The Swansea Independent claim that a Laird medical has been completed.

The 20-year-old is edging closer to sealing a move away from Man United on loan, having been in the stands as Swansea played Sheffield United on Saturday.

From diet, to loan fees and wage demands, the Reds are ensuring that this is undoubtedly the best place for their bright starlet to spend the next nine months.

HE’S A KEEPER

West Ham’s Darren Randolph has cast doubt over Jesse Lingard’s Manchester United future after telling the star ‘I’ll be seeing you soon’.

The West Ham goalkeeper spent six months with Lingard last season, after the midfielder joined on loan in January.

The move saw Lingard rejuvenate his career, scoring nine times for the Hammers in 16 games and leading to strong interest in a potential permanent transfer.

But it is believed Lingard, 28, wanted to stay at United while West Ham were unwilling to meet United’s valuation.

The England international, who narrowly missed out on a place in England’s Euro 2020 squad this summer, has since missed the start of the season with coronavirus.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer welcomed Lingard back this summer to help bolster his midfield options.

But still the playmaker has attracted attention away from Old Trafford, including at West Ham and Leicester.

GOOD MORNING RED DEVILS FANS

Man Utd start the week top of the Premier League after their thumping 5-1 win over fierce rivals Leeds United on Saturday.

Rivals and defending champions Man City started their campaign off with a 1-0 loss against Tottenham Hotspur.

Blackpool have made a late bid to hijack Manchester United babe Ethan Laird’s loan move to Swansea.

The Seasiders want the versatile defender, 20, to play right-back or centre-half for the season in the Championship.

Laird played for Swans boss Russell Martin at MK Dons last season.

Man Utd, Man City and Chelsea are all interested in signing Senegalese wonderkid Pape Matar Sarr.

The 18-year-old is currently playing his trade for French side Metz.

According to the Daily Mail, the Premier League trio could look to buy the midfielder and then loan him back to Metz for the season.

Man Utd club captain Harry Maguire has backed Raphael Varane to make a big impact at Old Trafford.

Maguire told PA news: “To bring players into this club, obviously of his calibre as well, it’s going to be really, really exciting.

“Everyone in the squad is obviously looking forward to working with him.

“I think one thing that it does is it boosts our defensive options. We’ve got an amazing number of centre-backs now at this club, all international players who are all proven in the Premier League.

“You’ve seen again how well Victor (Lindelof) played today. Victor has not just shown that today, but he’s shown it over the last two seasons while I’ve played with him.

“He’s an excellent footballer so, like I say, to have this amount of number of top centre-backs is great for the competition for places. It’ll make people push further, push harder and it’s exciting.”

Man Utd legend Paul Scholes believes that Paul Pogba will stay at the club.

The Frenchman picked up four assists in United’s 5-1 trouncing of rivals Leeds yesterday.

I think he’ll stay. I think he will.

“When he was playing a couple of years ago in a team that wasn’t quite functioning as well as this one looks like it might do.

“With the amount of attacking players he’s got, the ability he’s got, I think he’ll add a lot to this team.

“I think he’ll end up signing a new contract.

“If this team carries on in this manner, progressing like it is – I don’t want to get too excited – but it’s a team that can go on and win trophies, and that’s what he wants to do.”

DETECTIVE NEV

Gary Neville is adamant ‘something is going on’ after ‘angel’ Harry Kane missed Tottenham’s epic win over Manchester City, writes ANTHONY CHAPMAN.

The England captain did not feature in Sunday’s dominant 1-0 victory after being deemed unfit.

And Neville feels Kane’s absence against City possibly had something to do with their interest in his signature.

That’s because Kane’s Euro 2020 teammates have all been involved for their clubs this weekend.

The Manchester United legend told Sky Sports: “If you said about Harry Kane’s career before now, you’d say he’s been an absolute angel of a professional.

“Every other England player has been involved this weekend.

“Harry Kane would be here today if there was no doubt over his future.

“I thought this meant he was gone, the most prominent player not visible in this stadium.

“To not see him today was a surprise. I think that told me he was gone.

“Maybe I’m wrong and he’ll still be here.

“Harry Kane – he comes back late, he’s in isolation, he’s not here today – something is going on, something has happened.”

MASON DELIGHT

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has told Mason Greenwood he can play anywhere in his attack after notching versus Leeds.

The England star has plenty of competition for places but Solskjaer is confident that he will play a big role this season.

He told the club website: “The way he has developed the last couple of seasons, you can see the way he burst away on that second goal, I think that is a man compared to a boy that was in the first-team two years ago.

“I like what he has done in pre-season. He has worked so hard to get his fitness and he is ready to go.

“You can see with the forwards we have got into the team with Mason, Jadon [Sancho], Marcus [Rashford], Anthony [Martial], Dan [James], even they can play in different positions.

“Edinson [Cavani] is probably our only one fixed in one position. The rest I think we should just leave them to enjoy developing in their careers.

“I remember Wayne [Rooney] Carlos Tevez and Ronaldo playing together. Good players can always play together and we need movement and that is what we had today.”

He provided four assists during his time at Stadium MK.

And back in March, new Swansea boss Martin told the MK citizen: “We love Ethan – he has been fantastic. He has only improved since he got here.
