PEP IS COY

Pep Guardiola did not give a direct answer on whether or not he wants to sign Cristiano Ronaldo but he did not move out a rule wither.

CR7 looks destined to return to Manchester, with both City and United set to fight for his signature.

Asked about the possible signing, Guardiola said: “Ronaldo? Another striker?

“I cannot say much so Harry Kane announces continuing at his club so exceptional club like Tottenham and Cristiano was a Juventus player, I think he is a Juventus player and I cannot add anything else.

“Only I can say I think there is three or four days left anything can happen but in my personal view there are few players, CR is included and Messi, they decide where they are going to play.

“They lead in the negotiations and right now that is my feeling I am more delighted with the squad I have and we will say the same.”

CRISSSSSSSTIANO

Manchester United fans have turned on Cristiano Ronaldo after reports linking him with rivals Man City emerged.

The Red Devils icon, 36, is thought to be in talks with City over a controversial move to the Etihad this summer.

United fans have taken to social media to let Ronaldo know their feelings about the proposed deal.

One supporter tweeted: “Please no, he’s a United great. How did our owners let this happen? Oh yeah, they only want top four and let City get better than us.”

While another fan wrote: “I’m burning my Ronaldo shirt if he goes to City.”

They will be relieved to hear their club is keen to bring CR7 back to Old Trafford then.

RON HIS WAY BACK?

Manchester United have been in direct contact with Jorge Mendes since yesterday night for Cristiano Ronaldo comeback, according to Fabrizio Romano.

United are now said to be “seriously interested” in the forward along with rivals City.

And the United hierarchy are now seeking to do a deal with Juventus, with a transfer fee to be agreed.

Personal terms will also need to be confirmed before a potential glorious return to Old Trafford.

BREAKING

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has opened the door for a Cristiano Ronaldo return to Manchester United.

The Norwegian sang the forward’s praises before hinting at a possible move.

He also revealed that Ronaldo’s international team-mate, Bruno Fernandes, has been in touch with the Juventus star.

Solskjaer said: “I didn’t think Cristiano was going to leave Juventus. But if ever he is going to move away from Juventus he knows we are here.

“We’ve always had a good communication, Bruno has been talking to him as well. He knows how we feel about him.

“He is a legend of this club, the greatest players of all time if you ask me. So let’s see what happens with him.”

DIO-GO?

Manchester United full-back Diogo Dalot is said to be keen on a move to Borussia Dortmund.

And he has reportedly discussed the potential transfer with Red Devils team-mate Jadon Sancho and compatriot Raphael Guerreiro, according to German broadcaster Sport1.

Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund have been credited with an interest in the full-back and have opened talks with the Red Devils over a deal.

AC Milan are also believed to be interested in the Portuguese defender.

GAAL-LING OMISSION

Holland manager Louis van Gaal told Donny van de Beek he needs to start playing regular club football before he can think about a return to the international fold during a 45-minute phone call with Manchester United’s forgotten man.

Van Gaal, back at the helm of the Dutch national team, left Van de Beek out of his squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Norway, Montenegro and Turkey.

Van Gaal, a former United manager, refused to open up on too many of the finer details of his talk with Van de Beek but was clear that he wants to see the 24-year-old getting more minutes under his belt.

Van Gaal said in his press conference: “I called Donny van de Beek yesterday, I told him that he needs to start playing games.

“I did not speak with any manager of my players. Maybe it’s logical to talk with them, but I haven’t done it.

“I spoke (with Van de Beek) last night for 45 minutes, but I am not going to tell you anything. This is between Donny and me. I am capable of advising players.”

DOUBLE DEAL

Manchester United are said to be considering an offer for Diogo Dalot while at the same time reigniting talks over Kieran Trippier.

United’s pursuit of Trippier was paused earlier in the window due to Atletico Madrid’s demands for a £28 million fee together with Dalot’s good form in pre-season. But dialogue is open again after Dortmund’s approach for the right-back.

AC Milan are also interested in taking the Portuguese full-back for a second time.

There still remain major hurdles to Dalot leaving and Trippier joining, with sources previously confident neither would happen.

Despite the Dortmund offer, it is believed the most likely outcome is Dalot remaining at United for the foreseeable future, report The Athletic.

EYE ON THE PRIZE

Paul Pogba hopes to finish the campaign as the leading assist maker in the Premier League but insists ‘it won’t mean anything’ should Manchester United fail to pick up any silverware.

He told the United’s official website: “Which assist means the most to me? The next one. The next one, hopefully.

“It’s true that it’s been very nice to get those assists, but then you want to finish [as] the top assister of the league.

“You want to win something at the end, so all this will mean something with a trophy.

“It won’t mean anything without a trophy. I’m focused on that; I’m focused on giving my best on the pitch and hopefully I can get many more.”

IT’S FER REAL

Rio Ferdinand posted a cryptic tweet as Cristiano Ronaldo looks set to join Manchester City.

Multiple reports indicate that the 36-year-old has agreed personal terms with Pep Guardiola’s side as his return to the Premier League appears imminent.

City are expected to table an official offer on Friday as the Serie A side want £28million for the former Real Madrid star.

And his former teammate Ferdinand seemed to be referring to the news as he shared a cryptic post on Twitter.

He tweeted a gif of actor Leonardo DiCaprio laughing in one of his renowned films Django Unchained.

Ronaldo has previously made it clear that he wouldn’t move to Manchester City for the money.

AGENT POGBA

Paul Pogba is delighted that compatriot Raphael Varane joined the club this summer, and he revealed he played a part in the move.

Speaking to the BBC, Pogba said: “At the Euros I started seeing some stuff so I sent him (Varane) a message and said is it true?

“He said ‘you never know’ so I thought okay that’s good news but let me know, keep me posted.

“I never thought that he would come but saw something about him being on the transfer list. I spoke to him about United, told him we had a strong team.

“On my holiday we spoke and I was pretty sure he would come so I was super happy because he’s a top guy, top player also with the experience he has.

“He is a star, I was told him he had something, he can attract trophies so that will be great for us.”

‘I’M NOT AFRAID’

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he’s not afraid of the “psychic game of Jamie Carragher” and insists Man Utd are “in the fight”.

United have progressed steadily under Solskjaer’s leadership, but former Liverpool star Carragher says it won’t be acceptable if United were to finish below third or fourth this season.

egarding Carragher’s comments, in an interview with VG (via Sport Witness), Solskjaer said: “The psychic game of Jamie Carragher began early. I’m not afraid of that.

“I have had two full seasons now. I came in, then we were in sixth place, 20-30 points behind the top and very far behind the fourth place. We took some points again and were not very far from fourth place that season. It was a patch job to put it that way.

“Then we’re in the fight, aren’t we? When we are second and it is not decided until 10–12 May, we are in the fight.”

RON HIS WAY BACK?

Manchester United could be in the mix to sign Cristiano Ronaldo this summer amid Manchester City’s interest, according to reports.

The Portugal international is looking to leave Juventus this summer with the Citizens and Paris Saint-Germain the main two clubs linked to the 36-year-old.

However, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi ruled out the French club from making a bid to sign the former Real Madrid forward, he said: “Ronaldo? We do not have any talks open with him.”

Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna (via Sport Witness) has claimed United are now also in the race and could look to re-sign their former forward.

Aouna says that Ronaldo ‘has been offered’ to the Red Devils, where he won three Premier League titles, one FA Cup, two League Cups and a Champions League.

KANE MOVE

According to The Athletic, Spurs tried to offer Kane a bumper new deal to put the summer spat to bed and stay at the club, which he rejected.

The report also says that although a move away this season is unlikely, Manchester United could make a move next summer.

Manchester City are looking to complete a huge signing in Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus with just days left in the window.

And it is likely they won’t come back for Kane, potentially giving rivals United a free run.

MAKING HER MARC

Naomi Osaka has gifted Marcus Rashford a piece from her latest Levi’s collection after the Manchester United star was previously snapped wearing her logo on a hat.

The winger revealed he received a piece from her collection with a personal note from Osaka, saying: “Marcus, I hope you like this denim kimono from my Levi’s collab! This was a super fun collection for me to design with their team and we used upcycled denim to keep it sustainable.

“The other pieces in the collection are for the girls, but this one is unisex and I thought it would look cool on you. Tag me if you wear it – I want to see! LOL. Best, Naomi.”

Naomi Osaka recently released her own line of upcycled denim clothing with Levi’s.

It’s the latest in a series of partnerships for the world No 3, and it seems she has already received the approval of Marcus Rashford.

DIALLO UPDATE

Manchester United winger Amad Diallo is not expected to join Crystal Palace on loan ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline, according to The Athletic.

Many Premier League clubs are not keen to take a gamble on an unproven youngster, despite him being a highly-rated talent.

The club held talks with Burnley and Norwich over loaning out Amad, but the discussions did not progress.

However, Crystal Palace have shown serious interest in him with Patrick Vieira keen to give youth a chance, but it has been claimed that Amad will not be on his way to Selhurst Park.

Manchester United want guarantees of regular minutes for Amad before agreeing to loan him out this summer, and it seems The Eagles are not able to guarantee that.

‘I’D STAY’

Jamie Vardy has declared that he would reject hypothetical offers from the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal in order to remain with the Foxes until the end of his career.

A number of top sides have been linked with moves for Vardy over the course of his career, but he has remained loyal to Leicester despite the temptation of Champions League football and a big-money contract.

It appears as though he will continue to show no hesitation in sticking by the club that took a chance on his ability until his playing days are over.

Appearing on the new series of Sky panel show A League Of Their Own, Vardy was asked by comedian Jimmy Carr if he would consider a move to one of the Premier League’s biggest clubs to round off an exceptional career.

The former England striker kept his answer short, sweet and to the point, replying with: “No. I’d stay there [at Leicester] until the end.”

BISS-NESS TO BE DONE

Liverpool have made an opening move for Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma, according to the Daily Express.

Brighton want around £40 million for the Mali midfielder, but are under less pressure to sell during this transfer window after already unloading defender Ben White to Arsenal for £50 million.

Klopp though faces competition for Bissouma from Manchester United and Arsenal, who have also been tracking the powerful 24-year-old.

Bissouma has become a key part of Albion manager Graham Potter’s team since arriving on a five year contract from Lille in 2018 in a £15m deal.

CR7 LEGACY

Cristiano Ronaldo would not be the first Manchester United legend to make the move across the city to Eastlands.

Peter Schmeichel infamously did exactly that towards the end of his career too, and he incurred the wrath of Gary Neville in the process.

The two players met in the tunnel ahead of a Manchester derby in 2002 and with Schmeichel now donning the colours of Manchester City, he went up to his former teammate for a handshake, only to be rejected.

And with a few United fans reminiscing on the moment in response to the Ronaldo rumours, now felt like a better time than most to reflect back on such an amusing incident, so check it out here:

RONALDO RETURN?

Manchester United are in contact with Jorge Mendes over a stunning return for Cristiano Ronaldo before the transfer window slams shuts, it has been claimed.

Juventus are open to parting ways with the 36-year-old but it’s currently Manchester City who are frontrunners in the race to secure his signature.

talkSPORT’s Alex Crook has claimed United are actually in touch with Mendes over a stunning return for Ronaldo, though a deal appears unlikely.

He tweeted: “(I) understand Mendes has been in touch with #MUFC about a possible emotional return to Old Trafford but looks unlikely.”

WAZZA WEIGHS IN

Wayne Rooney does not believe Cristiano Ronaldo will risk his legacy at Manchester United by joining rivals Man City.

Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes is in talks with City over a sensational move to the Etihad, with the club open to a free transfer if the Juventus star accepts a cut to his £500,000-a-week salary.

But Rooney, who played with Ronaldo at Old Trafford from 2004-2009, has his doubts as to whether a deal will go through because of 36-year-old’s pride in his United legacy.

He said: “I don’t know what to make of it, to be honest.

“If you’re asking me if I think it’s possible then I have major doubts that it is a possibility.

“Cristiano has got a great legacy at United. I don’t think he’s going to move somewhere for financial reasons.”

ED IN HANDS

Manchester United could be set to clash with Edinson Cavani, with Uruguay adamant that they will pick the striker for next week’s internationals.

The Premier League have ‘reluctantly’ banned all of its players from travelling to red list countries for international fixtures next month.

Fifa are desperate for the Prem to reconsider, even trying to enlist the help of Boris Johnson.

And so, it would appear, is Cavani.

When the Premier League announced its decision, the 34-year-old responded with a series of question marks on Instagram.

President of the Uruguayan Football Association Ignacio Alonso is refusing to back down.

He said: “The clubs are obliged to release the players [for Fifa dates] and cannot impose any sanction on the players [if they join their national teams].

“It seems to me that FIFPRO must show its voice on this issue.”

MORNING, UNITED FANS

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer still hopes to land a new central midfielder – but Erling Haaland is his ultimate target.

That’s the pick of the latest transfer talk around Old Trafford as United build up to Sunday’s Premier League clash at Wolves.

But two midfield stars Solskjaer has been linked to this summer now seem out of contention.

Uruguayan Federico Valverde has signed a new Real Madrid contract.

And Atletico Madrid’s Spain ace Saul Niguez is thought to be in talks with Arsenal.

Meanwhile, it’s claimed Borussia Dortmund goal machine Haaland is United’s long-term dream buy.

The Manchester Evening News say Solskjaer and football director John Murtough have ‘mutually’ agreed on the Norwegian as their preferred option.

The Red Devils believe their main squad challenge is to find an eventual successor to Edinson Cavani, 34.

In the short term, United have the chance to avenge last season’s Europa League final loss after drawing Villarreal in the Champions League group stage.

Italians Atalanta and Swiss champions Young Boys complete a testing group.

STILL DALOT TO TALK ABOUT

Manchester United are in talks with Borussia Dortmund over allowing defender Diogo Dalot to leave on a loan transfer.

The 22-year-old right-back signed from Porto for £19million three years ago, but has only featured 35 times in that period.

And according to Sky Sports, the Red Devils are open to allowing Dalot to leave on a loan deal before the window shuts on August 31.

This is despite the Portuguese international being the only obvious back-up right-back to Aaron Wan-Bissaka at Old Trafford.

That is because youngsters Brandon Williams and Axel Tuanzebe have already been farmed out on loan to Norwich and Aston Villa.

Dalot spent last season on loan with AC Milan but returned to the club at the end of the campaign.

And he seemed to be working his way into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s thoughts with some impressive pre-season displays.

He was then on the bench for Man Utd’s draw with Southampton on Sunday.

JACK’S LYRICAL ABOUT RONALDO

Jack Grealish’s tweets about Cristiano Ronaldo have resurfaced amid rumours linking the Juventus forward and United legend with a transfer to Manchester City.

The 36-year-old superstar could be set to link up with Grealish at the Etihad as he eyes a move away from Italy before the window shuts next Tuesday.

And a series of tweets from Man City’s new £100million man appears to indicate Grealish would be well on-board with Ronaldo joining him at the Premier League champions.

One tweet by the ex-Aston Villa man from 2013 says: “What a shock! The man himself CRISTIANO RONALDO, WORLDS BEST PLAYER DOES IT AGAIN!!”

And another from one year earlier reads: “I actually don’t get Ronaldo ? He’s just scored again ?! He’s to good!! #TeamRonaldo”

There are numerous more referencing Ronaldo, including: “Onto El Classico now! Absolutley buzzing for it!! WATCH boss it #TeamRonaldo”

And another says: “Just found its El Classico next saturday… BOOM !!! Watch Ronaldo RIP up big time!! #TeamRonaldo.”

HAALAND IS ‘UTD’S ULTIMATE TARGET’

Man Utd have reportedly decided Borussia Dortmund ace Erling Haaland is their No1 transfer target.

Credit: Getty The Red Devils are on the hunt for a new striker to succeed veteran Edinson Cavani, whose contract expires next summer.

And according to the Manchester Evening News, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and football director John Murtough have ‘mutually’ agreed on Haaland as their preferred option.
