Manchester United attempted to sign Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly in the summer transfer window.

That is according to Corriere dello Sport, who report that United tried to land Koulibaly in their bid for a new centre-back to partner up with Harry Maguire before reaching a deal with Raphael Varane.

However, the Red Devils were unwilling to meet the Partenopei’s release clause for the Senegal international.

The Serie A giants demanded £34.1million plus add-ons for the 30-year-old

Antonio Conte is keen on managing Manchester United one day, if the opportunity arises.

That is according to Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio, who reports that Conte would love to join United because he knows he would win honours quickly.

That may be the reason why the Italian coach didn’t take over at Tottenham in the summer as he saw it more of a long-term project.

In fact, the former Chelsea boss wanted to replace Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford back in 2018

Rio Ferdinand has revealed Derby boss and former Manchester United team-mate Wayne Rooney is the “total opposite” as a manager compared to his personality as a player.

Ferdinand told FIVE: “I didn’t have an idea of what he would be like.

“As a player, he’s quiet sometimes, can be loud sometimes, can be brash, can be aggressive. He’s the total opposite as a manager, it’s mad. There’s a respect level with the players, immediately you get that with these players because he’s Wayne Rooney.

“But then you have to prove yourself. Every player I’ve talked to here, whether it be Curtis Davies, Ravel [Morrison] etc, they’ve all said ‘he’s good you know’ because they didn’t know what to expect – he’s brought them together and they’re a close-knit group now.

“We’ve got a WhatsApp group that we chat in with all the old Manchester United players and the first thing I’m going to say in there is ‘wow’ because the first thing that stands out is he absolutely loves it, tactically as well”

Former Manchester United star Louis Saha believes manager, and former team-mate, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be “questioned faster” because his team lacks weaknesses.

Saha told Sky Sports: “Let’s say yes, you can afford to lose, because there are still games to recover from that and it is a game to learn [from] and that they still have to improve. They need to raise their game and they improve their lack of concentration.

“It is all about getting things better. Ole is still a young manager, where you always look for a new mistake for him. It is unrealistic.

“I do think that he will be questioned faster because the team doesn’t have any weaknesses. For me, it is a very strong side”

Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo hinted that the Red Devils are targeting all major honours this season.

However, Ronaldo’s former United team-mate Rio Ferdinand called for some caution.

Ferdinand told BT Sport: “I would put City and Chelsea above Man United right at this moment in time, it could change.

“Chelsea look like a team capable of pulling results out at any given time.

“City have the experience as well of winning things but Man United are the least experienced of the four [English] teams and least amount of understanding of how to win trophies”

Manchester United ace Donny van de Beek has issued a rallying cry after the shock defeat to Young Boys.

Van de Beek put together a decent performance but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer opted to sacrifice him due to unforseen circumstances.

Solskjaer took the midfielder off the pitch and opted to switch to a defensive formation after losing Aaron Wan-Bissaka to a straight red card.

But the Netherlands international insists that the Red Devils will bounce back.

Van de Beek tweeted: “Time to bounce back together”

Manchester United superstar Bruno Fernandes is closing in on a new five-year deal worth more than £250,000-a-week, reports SunSport’s Daniel Cutts.

Fernandes has been in talks with United’s hierarchy for months over the new terms, and is near to putting pen to paper.

The playmaker, who was wanted by Real Madrid and Barcelona, will increase his salary by nearly £100,000-a-week with the new contract.

SunSport understands his new terms will last until 2026 and a deal could be announced within the next few weeks

Manchester United are keeping tabs on RB Leipzig star Dani Olmo.

That is according to Marca, who claim United are still on the lookout for a midfielder ahead of the January transfer window.

The Red Devils are facing the possibility of losing Paul Pogba at the end of the season as his contract runs out in June.

However, Olmo plays as an attack-minded midfielder for Leipzig and Spain

Young Boys ace Sandro Lauper praised Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s tactics as they made ‘things difficult’ in their Champions League encounter.

Lauper told UEFA: “We played well from the moment we fell behind.

“The red card played into our hands, but we did well. We changed things tactically and went with two up top. That helped us and gave us a boost.

“It’s hard to keep your concentration for 90 minutes against a team with so much quality.

“We could have applied a bit more pressure for their goal. The important thing is that we scored twice and they only got one.

“They played with five defenders in the second half which made things difficult for us. You have to force the issue and in the end we got our just rewards”

Manchester United and Bruno Fernandes are holding talks over a new contract.

Fabrizio Romano reports that “positive discussions” are underway with United wishing to sort out a fresh deal by the end of the year.

Fernandes wishes to stay and the Red Devils consider him a priority, just like Paul Pogba.

Villarreal manager Unai Emery stated that a surprise in Manchester United’s group can’t be ruled out.

This comes after Yougn Boys’ upset victory over United, who have been drawn in the same group as Emery’s team following last season’s Europa League final that saw the Spanish team winning the trophy.

Former Arsenal boss Emery said: “This group gets complicated with Young Boys beating Manchester United.

“I wouldn’t rule out a surprise, because I’ve already experienced them in the Champions League and in the Europa League.

“Teams in Europe have a touch more motivation. Young Boys are group leaders, and Man United, who are the favourites, are last.

“Atalanta and Villarreal are there, fighting for our space. Every game played makes it that little bit harder.”

Manchester United star Jesse Lingard admitted that the Champions League defeat to Young Boys “hurt”.

The Swiss champions picked up an upset win in the closing stages of stoppage time following a costly error by Lingard.

Thus, David Wagner’s men picked up a famous 2-1 victory over United, who lost Aaron Wan-Bissaka to a straight red card in the first half.

Lingard issued the following statement:

Bayern Munich star Leon Goretzka has signed a new contract with the German champions.

Goretzka’s deal was set to expire next year but the midfielder has extended his stay at the Allianz Arena until 2026.

The Germany international was linked with a move to Manchester United during the summer transfer window but ultimately stayed in Munich.

Goretzka said: “With FC Bayern we have won everything there is to be won over the past three years.

“But it is even nicer than winning a title to confirm and repeat these successes. We want to build on this in the next few years.

“The team, the club and the environment are not only highly professional, but also familiar. This mixture is one of the guarantors of success of this club.

“I am very happy that I was able to extend my contract early until 2026”

Liverpool legend John Barnes doesn’t expect Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo to deliver “week in, week out”.

Barnes told BonusCodeBets: “Cristiano Ronaldo is a fantastic player but who knows what long-term impact he’ll have at Manchester United? Obviously, he’s a fantastic player but at 36, he’s not going to be doing that week in, week out.

“What will happen to players like Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho, if they aren’t playing because Ronaldo is there – it’s going to stifle their development.

“It was a fantastic start for him at Manchester United by scoring two goals against Newcastle and once against Young Boys.

“He’s regarded as one of the world’s best players, but at 36, he’s not going to have that impact week in week out, so, only time will tell, but it has strengthened Man United because they now have lots of options and strength in depth”

Leicester star Youri Tielemans remains coy about his future at King Power Stadium.

Tielemans’ deal with the Foxes runs out in 2023 and the midfielder has been linked with Manchester United, Liverpool, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

The Belgium international told Sky Sports: “As long as I’m here I will give everything for the club.

“I’ve already done so, but I will do so even more. The contract situation is just something that is going on in football, it’s a normal situation.

“There are talks going on – I’m not saying I’m going to sign, I’m not saying I’m not going to sign. We will see”

Leicester star Youri Tielemans has admitted he is “keeping his options open” after being linked with a move away from King Power Stadium.

Tielemans has been linked with Manchester United, Liverpool, Barcelona and Real Madrid

The midfielder is currently holding talks with the Foxes about renewing his current contract.

Tielemans told Sky Sports: “There’s no update really.

“I’m open to everything. The transfer market has just closed, but I want to keep as many options as I can open”

Jesse Lingard hopes he’ll get the chance at former loan club West Ham on Sunday to overcome his Champions League hurt .

United team-mates queued up on social media to console the England midfielder after his last-gasp blunder spelt defeat at Young Boys.

Following 10-man United’s shock 2-1 Champions League group loss.Lingard posted: “Every time I pull on the United shirt, I hope people understand what it means to me…

“I’m upset for my part in the defeat… but mistakes happen in football and we now push on together.

“We will all pick ourselves up and I can’t wait for Sunday.”

Meanwhile, United and Arsenal are said to be ready to duel for Bayer Leverkusen starlet Florian Wirtz.

The attacking midfielder, 18, has notched 11 goals and as many assists in 50 games for the Bundesliga club and already has three full Germany caps.

Former Inter Milan and Chelsea manager Antonio Conte would reportedly consider bossing again in the Premier League – especially with United.

Finally, Cristiano Ronaldo and his family have switched mansions after bleating sheep kept waking them – moving into a former United star’s seven-bed home.

Jesse Lingard has apologised to Manchester United fans for his gaffe that cost them a Champions League point at Young Boys, writes WILLIAM PUGH.

The midfielder’s woeful backpass played Theoson Siebatcheu in to make it 2-1 to the hosts in the fifth minute of second-half stoppage time.

Lingard, 28, came in for criticism from all angles after the error and has fronted up to it on social media.

He posted a picture of himself looking glum after the final whistle on Twitter and Instagram.

And the former West Ham loanee wrote: “Last night hurt. Every time I pull on the United shirt, I hope people understand what it means to me.

“I always go out wanting to do the best for the club, the team and especially the fans. I’m upset for my part in the defeat.

“I never want to lose any game but mistakes happen in football and we now push on together.

“We will all pick ourselves up and I can’t wait for Sunday.”

Bruno Fernandes edges out his Manchester United and Portugal team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo in one stat – and not one you might guess…

And Fernandes outscoring Ronaldo 777 to 75 on Fifa 22 sparked a social media debate – including about his score of 88 for pace aged 36.

This post suggests Italian giants AC Milan have a bizarrely-bad record IN England – Old Trafford being the only place they’ve won.

Yet they somehow led 2-1 at Liverpool tonight despite taking a territorial tonking – before the Reds triumphed 3-2.

Cristiano Ronaldo and his family have switched mansions after bleating sheep kept waking them.

Manchester United’s new signing, 36, who loves his rest between matches, has moved from one seven-bed home to another.

Ronaldo escaped his baaing woe by moving into a £3million seven-bed owned by a former Man United star.

A security team had whisked the Man Utd legend and his family to a £6million home in 23 acres days after sealing his return to United.

But the striker, partner Georgina Rodriguez, 27, and their four children moved out after less than a week due to the racket from sheep and security fears.

A source said: “While the property is beautiful and is nestled in rolling fields and woodland, it was also close to sheep which are very noisy early in the morning.

“It had a public footpath across the land and the road at the front gave a view inside its gates.

“Ronaldo is a true pro who places a lot on rest and recovery after games, so it was decided it was best if he and his family moved.”

Antonio Conte could be open to a sensational return to the Premier League, according to reports.

The Italian, who took Chelsea to the Premier League title in 2017, has been out of work since leaving Inter Milan at the end of last season.

Conte won the Italian giants their first Serie A title in 11 years but then departed after disagreeing with club bosses.

He was then interviewed for the position as head coach of Tottenham over the summer, only for those talks to break down.

It is now being said that he would be open to taking the managerial role at Manchester United if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was to be sacked.

However, it is not thought he would be interested in replacing Mikel Arteta at Arsenal.

Sky Sports reporter Gianluca Di Marzio said: “He would only accept a winning project. So I don’t think he would accept Arsenal and that is why he said no to Tottenham.

“I think he would only accept if say Manchester United called.”

Manchester United and Arsenal will duel for Bayer Leverkusen starlet Florian Wirtz, Transfermarketweb suggest.

The attacking midfielder, 18, has notched 11 goals and as many assists in 50 games for the Bundesliga club and already has three full Germany caps.

Wirtz’s league stats for this season are particularly staggering – two goals and three assists in three matches.

Bruno Fernandes has joined the online queue of United players voicing support and unity for Jesse Lingard for his match-costing late blunder last night.

Lingard’s misplaced pass helped Young Boys land one of their greatest wins ever, 2-1 at home to 10-man United.

And replying to Lingard’s post revealing his hurt, midfield team-mate Fernandes tweeted: “We stick together as one.”

Footage has emerged of Cristiano Ronaldo comforting a steward after KO’ing her with a football as United warmed up for last night’s 2-1 loss at Young Boys.

The steward was sent flying after a miskick from Ronaldo flew right into her.

Cristiano Ronaldo comforts steward he KOd with ball during Man Utd warm-up as he translates for medics

She lay prone on the ground as medics rushed to her aid.

And Ronnie himself charged over to make sure she was OK.

The new video now shows Ronaldo looking deeply concerned as he translates the steward’s messages for the medics.

The United superstar comforted her as she received treatment.

And she was fortunately uninjured by the accident.
