Brendan Rodgers’ past history might be provoking some worry among the Leicester City hierarchy, with the Northern Irishman the favourite to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United. Solskjaer has led the Red Devils to just one win in their seven Premier League games, a serious blow to their title ambitions.

United now lie sixth in the top-flight, nine points off leaders Chelsea with 11 games of the season already gone.

A hammering at the hands of fierce rivals Liverpool before a humiliating performance in the Manchester Derby against Manchester City has ramped up the pressure on Solskjaer.

It appears to only be a matter of time before the Red Devils are forced to sack the Norwegian, with supporters increasingly unhappy about his management of the club.

The leading contender to take over is Rodgers, who remains one of the most highly-rated bosses in England.

After leading Swansea into the Premier League, he had a mostly successful spell with Liverpool before winning seven trophies at Celtic.

Now, he is in charge of Leicester, who he led to the FA Cup last season, their first time ever that they have won the competition.

But the hierarchy at the Foxes may be growing concerned that their manager is being linked with replacing Solskjaer.

According to the Daily Star, United are ‘increasingly confident’ of being able to convince Rodgers to come in.

It is stated that though he would be ‘reluctant’ to leave the King Power Stadium, there is little more he can achieve.

United will also hope to take advantage of a release clause in his contract that allows him to join a club playing in the Champions League, as the Red Devils are.

It is a situation that is eerily similar to when Leicester poached him from Celtic midway through to 2018/2019 season.

Rodgers took charge at Celtic Park ahead of the 2016/2017 season, going on to enjoy remarkable success.

He led The Bhoys to two successive trebles, as well as winning the Scottish League Cup before his February departure.

Despite his emotional connection to the club, having grown up as a Celtic fan, he still quit to return to the Premier League.

He has previously made it clear that he does not regret his departure from Celtic, insisting that Leicester was a step up for his career.

“I’ve always said it was such a tough decision for me to leave Celtic. What I couldn’t do was let my heart rule my head. I felt like I needed a next challenge,” he told Sky Sports earlier this year.

But that may leave Leicester fearful that history could repeat itself if United do indeed come calling for their manager.
