Turkey star Altay Bayindir finally received a message from Manchester United legend Edwin van der Sar after talking about his influence on him growing up.
Bayindir arrived at Old Trafford in the summer as part of a reported £4.3m deal from Fenerbahce, which made him the first Turkish player to represent the Red Devils.
The 25-year-old Turkish star is still waiting for his opportunity to make his first-team United debut, with Bayindir competing against both Tom Heaton and Andre Onana.
However, Bayindir has reportedly settled in well at Old Trafford and has currently been away from Manchester as he represents Turkey during the international break.
The ex-Fenerbahce player started in Turkey’s sensational 3-2 win over Germany, with Bayindir’s United teammates even sending him messages over his performance.

Bayindir on Van der Sar’s influence
Following his arrival from Turkey, Bayindir candidly opened up on Van der Sar’s influence and called him both a “quality man” and a “quality person.”
MORE UNITED STORIES
Speaking to United’s official media, the Red Devils player once again reiterated his admiration for Van der Sar and how he watched him when he was younger.
“My favourite goalkeeper for Manchester United when I was younger, I watched a lot of games [of] Manchester United, and my favourite goalkeeper, I say this and Edwin van der Sar is a legend, I know him,” Bayindir said in a clip posted on Instagram.
Van der Sar, who was brought to Old Trafford by Sir Alex Ferguson in 2005, took notice of Bayindir’s praise and left his own response to United’s summer signing.
Van der Sar’s message to Bayindir
Arriving from Fulham as part of a reported £2m deal, Van der Sar enjoyed incredible success at United and is considered one of the club’s best shot-stoppers of all time.
The 53-year-old Dutchman lifted four Premier League titles, a Champions League and two League Cups during his glittering run at Old Trafford.
Van der Sar took to Instagram and responded to Bayindir by claiming that he will see him in Manchester “soon” and looks forward to chatting with him more.
However, the former United No 1 also expressed that his “favourite” is still Onana, who he worked with during his time as chief executive at Ajax.
Responding to Bayindir, Van der Sar wrote: “Hi, Altay, will see you soon in Manchester and we will have a chat about [goalkeeping] but my favourite is still Andre as you will know!”
