Paul Pogba’s two-month injury is just another woe to add to his catalogue of mishaps at Manchester United recently. The Frenchman was injured in training on international duty and will be sidelined for eight to 10 weeks for United as a result, piling the pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. But his Red Devils career continues to be shrouded in doubt after he reportedly demanded a contract worthy of being the highest-paid player in the league.

The start of the season saw Pogba’s best form of his United career, with the player assisting seven goals in just three matches.

United were joint-top of the table in mid-September, signifying what could have been a title charge for Solskjaer.

But just four points from a possible 24 have put those claims to bed, with United now nine points from the summit already with no signs of improvement.

Losses to Aston Villa, Liverpool, Manchester City and Leicester have consigned them to sixth-place and with a number of other clubs hot on their tails.

And Pogba’s poor form – including a sending off against arch-rivals Liverpool in October – is not helping matters.

Therefore it appears nonsensical that according to L’Equipe, he wants to ‘break all salary records in the history of the Premier League’.

The current-highest paid player in the league is apparently Pogba’s teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, who is on a reported £400,000 per week.

Pogba has come under strong criticism from United fans, with some not wanting him to play.

And it is a far cry from his own perceived thoughts of the situation, with a source claiming he ‘lives in his own bubble’.

“He is still perceived as a player able to create everything, to change the course of a match but his credit is not infinite,” a source said.

“He was not involved in putting Manchester United back on the European stage. And, sportingly, in influence, today he is overtaken by Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo.”

Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus are all interested in his signature should he leave at the end of the season.

However, L’Equipe goes on to say that his injury record and inconsistent performance level means that he is no longer the ‘hyper bankable player that all European league are fighting for.’

Yet on a free transfer, Pogba would be extremely hard to turn down.

United take on Watford after the international break in a bid to get back up and running in the Champions League qualification race.
