Manchester United’s move for Cristiano Ronaldo is now all but done and they are reportedly set to keep Paul Pogba, a key member of their squad, at Old Trafford for the upcoming campaign too. The Red Devils announced on Friday evening that they had agreed a fee with Juventus for the transfer of the superstar.
It had appeared that United’s summer business had been completed with the signing of Raphael Varane from Real Madrid.
The French defender joined Jadon Sancho and Tom Heaton as the new arrivals at Old Trafford as the new season kicked off.
But with Ronaldo demanding he be allowed to leave Italy having grown frustrated with life at Juve, a move for the 36-year-old proved too good an opportunity to pass up.
He had just one year remaining on his contract with the Serie A giants, who were unlikely to renew his deal when it ended.
Instead Juve focused on bringing in as high a fee as they possibly could for a player they paid £100million for three years ago.

Throughout the summer, it had been thought that they would attempt to bring Paul Pogba back in return for Ronaldo.
Like the Portugal captain, Pogba also has just one year remaining on his deal at United and looks likely to depart at the end of the season.
While Paris Saint-Germain are undoubtedly the frontrunners to sign him, Juventus were also keen to bring him back to Italy where he enjoyed so much success.
Pogba was a key part of the Juve side which won four successive Serie A titles before his record-breaking move to United.

With Juve keen to bring him back to Turin, it was thought that there was a possibility that he could be part of a swap deal involving Ronaldo.
That is not the case though, with transfer insider Fabrizio Romano reporting that Pogba has not been part of the negotiations between United and Juventus.
Instead, the deal is a simple cash-based transfer, with the Red Devils paying £12.8m up front and another £6.8m in add-ons.
Juventus could obviously return with their own bid for Pogba, though this does not appear to be a likely outcome.

PSG have also called off their pursuit until next year having brought in Lionel Messi in a bumper free transfer.
The news that Pogba will likely be staying in Manchester will be welcome to boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Solskjaer will be able to call upon a mouthwatering array of options in attack, including Ronaldo, Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Edinson Cavani.
The Norwegian has had problems in midfield, but Pogba is one of his key players, with United now being favourites to win the Premier League title.
