Manchester United have reportedly been informed by Serie A outfits Atalanta BC that it will take on offer of more than €60m (£52m) to secure the services of Cristian Romero in the summer.
The 20-times English champions have supposedly been hopeful of persuading the Serie A team to cash in on the centre-back for a bid of around £39m.
Romero starred on loan with Atalanta last campaign and La Dea have the option to purchase the Argentina international outright for £21.5m.
According to Tuttosport, Serie A outfits intend to trigger that right-to-buy clause and keep Romero at the Gewiss Stadium unless a big bid is tabled.
It is not believed that the Red Devils have yet made an initial approach for the 23-year-old, who earned his first senior international cap in last week’s 1-1 draw with Chile.
Meanwhile, Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele is reportedly mulling over a new five-year deal at Camp Nou.
Dembele was strongly linked with a move to Man United and Arsenal last summer, however, both of them likely to miss luring the French man away from Nou Camp.
The 24-year-old forward has largely struggled to justify his nine-figure price tag since his arrival with the Spanish giants from Borussia Dortmund back in 2017, however, he enjoyed a vital role under Ronald Koeman last season.
