Manchester United players and staff are apparently ‘resigned’ to seeing manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer lose his job, despite the fact the Glazer family and the club’s directors are desperate for the Norwegian to turn things around.

United were defeated 2-0 at home by Manchester City on Saturday. That result came just two weeks after the Red Devils were humiliated during their 5-0 thrashing at the hands of bitter rivals Liverpool.

Man Utd had started the campaign in brilliant form as they won four of their first five Premier League matches.

But the wheels have come off since mid-September and Solskjaer’s side have won just three of their last 10 games in all competitions.

That has led to a large section of the club’s fanbase calling for their manager’s head.

According to The Sun, the mood at Old Trafford has turned to one of resignation that Solskjaer will soon be given his marching orders.

But the Glazer family, who own the club, are supposedly willing the former striker to turn things around, as are the directors.

United’s recent dismal displays have seen them drop to sixth in the Premier League table.

They are now nine points off leaders Chelsea and five points adrift of the top four.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s late equaliser against Atalanta last week at least kept them at the top of their Champions League group.

But they still face a tough task to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition and will be desperately hoping they can avoid dropping into the Europa League after facing Villarreal and Young Boys in the next month.

Former United right-back Gary Neville admits Solskjaer is under huge pressure but has backed his former team-mate to keep his job at Old Trafford.

“Ole is under massive, massive pressure but the first thing that has to happen is that he needs a team with courage,” Solskjaer told Sky Sports on Saturday.

“Up to the end of last season, the feeling here [at Old Trafford] was that there was progression because they finished second in the league.

“I don’t think there is any chance there will be a decision [on the manager] during this season unless it gets so bad and it is getting to the point where it is so bad.

“This United squad should not be [so far] off the top – nobody has expected this. Nobody would have expected United would sink so low at this point in the season.

“I think he has a few weeks to sort it out.”
