Man Utd news: Dean Henderson urged to leave ‘as soon as possible’ – Metro.co.uk

Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson should leave Old Trafford ‘as soon as possible’, according to former Red Devils shot-stopper Mark Bosnich.

England international Henderson has only made one appearance for Man United this season, playing in the Carabao Cup defeat to West Ham in September.

It is an alarming development for Henderson, who threatened to replace David de Gea as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper last season.

Henderson was widely tipped to become United’s No. 1 after breaking into the team but De Gea has largely impressed this season despite the team’s inconsistent form in the Premier League and in Europe.

Bosnich ‘understands’ why Henderson did not push for a move over the summer but says it is now time for the goalkeeper to leave Old Trafford.

‘I think he should go. He’s at the stage of his career where he needs to be playing regular football,’ Bosnich told talkSPORT.

‘He’ll know that as well. I understand that at the start of the season, him having a go in pre-season to see how things plan out.

‘De Gea has been excellent and there’s no doubt about it, with the exception of the second goal you have to say against Manchester City which I think he’ll know that he should have saved.

‘But I think from Dean Henderson’s point of view, he needs to start looking after Dean Henderson.’

Henderson, who has made 27 appearances for Manchester United in all competitions, has been linked with a move to Newcastle United since the Magpies were taken over.

Bosnich, who had two spells at the Theatre of Dreams, added: ‘Newcastle are a club who are on the go and on the move but they are also in a perilous position right now.

‘They’ve got a new manager [Eddie Howe] and it’s important to get your spine right and the goalkeeper is the integral part of that.

‘Dean Henderson should go and should go as soon as he possibly can.’
