Man Utd midfielder Paul Pogba ‘leaves training’ due to reported thigh injury

Man Utd could be without Paul Pogba due to injury as he has been seen hobbling off injured during France’s training session on Monday.

The Red Devils paid a then world-record fee of around £89m to resign Pogba from Juventus in 2016.

The Frenchman has regularly been criticised during his time at Man Utd.

Pogba started the 2021/22 season brightly as he registered seven assists in the Premier League from their first four games.

But he has struggled of late and he was sent off during his side’s 5-0 loss versus Liverpool last month. He has not featured in their last two league games.

The 28-year-old was taken off during United’s 2-2 draw against Atalanta in the Champions League group stages last week. After that game, Rio Ferdinand criticised Pogba for taking “liberties”:

“I thought he took liberties a few times, he was a bit sloppy. Sometimes you just need to be told ‘sharpen up, play one or two touch’.

“He needs to be telling himself and he didn’t do well enough. There are not those [critical] conversations going on in our changing room.

“There’s not a player in the world that starts every game perfectly.”

Pogba was due to feature for France during the international break. This is now in doubt though as footage emerged on Monday showing him hobbling off injured during training:

Loic Tanzi – a journalist for RMC Sport – posted the footage. He stated that the midfielder picked up a thigh injury during the training session.

Last month, Paul Scholes called out Pogba for “causing mayhem” at Manchester United:

“He’s caused mayhem over the last couple of years. Everyone knows what a talent he is, everybody trusts him, every manager trusts him, tried to give him his head and let him be the player he’s been.

“But with all the commotion, not signing his contract, almost holding the club to ransom. Then he comes on and does something like that.

“It’s not Ole’s fault, don’t get me wrong. But that’s part of it which almost summed the United performance up today.

“Look, he probably will play [again] won’t he? But I don’t think they will be missing anything if he doesn’t.

“He’s had numerous chances, he keeps saying he lacks consistency, but that is just [a lack of] discipline and disrespect for your manager and your team-mates, what he’s done today.”
