Man Utd man dubbed ‘as good as you can get’ this season, proven to be true once again vs Brighton

Manchester United prevailed on the last day of the season against Brighton & Hove Albion. They won 2-0 at the Amex.

On a day when Manchester City won the Premier League title, at least Manchester United fans had something to smile about.

Goals from Diogo Dalot and Rasmus Hojlund ensured that the Red Devils left the south coast with all three points in England’s top flight, although unfortunately, it did no favours for their league position.

There were some good performances on the night. Lisandro Martinez had a great return, Casemiro didn’t put a foot wrong and Andre Onana made some great stops.

But there was one Manchester United first-team squad star that shone brighter than the rest. He was immense, just as he has been all season.

Diogo Dalot caps off a brilliant season with a class display

The Portuguese full-back was absolutely sensational against Brighton and capped off his fabulous season with a display to match his prolonged efforts.

He got the goal that sent Erik ten Hag’s side on their way on Sunday, but it wasn’t just this strike that was the reason he deserved the plaudits.

He was also defensively very disciplined and was rarely troubled by the absolutely rapid Aimon Adingra, who was actually subbed off due to this. Dalot’s fine performance was reflected in his stats:

  • 90 minutes played
  • 1 goal
  • 33/38 accurate passes (87%)
  • 48 touches
  • 1/1 shot accuracy (100%)
  • 2 duels won
  • 1 clearance
  • 2 interceptions

His season’s efforts have been already recognised by his teammates, and now by pundits. Andy Gray has chosen Dalot for his Premier League Team of the Season.

He said the following: “Dalot, I think, is as good as you will get, I am telling you now. He has had a great season.” Surely this means one thing at Old Trafford.

Diogo Dalot: Manchester United Player of the Season?

The Sir Matt Busby Player of the Season Award will likely be going to a new home this time around, with Dalot the more than likely recipient.

He has 100% deserved it if so. Heading into the season, it was even up for debate as to whether he could lock down the right-back position ahead of Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Now, he’s arguably the first name on the team sheet and will be a vital contributor to the Sir Jim Ratcliffe-led project moving forward. Well in, Diogo.
