Wayne Rooney has insisted that Cristiano Ronaldo will not join several Manchester United legends in signing for fierce rivals Manchester City. Ronaldo has an ‘agreement’ with the Premier League champions, according to reports.
Rooney and Ronaldo enjoyed an impressive relationship during their time at Old Trafford, despite their famous falling out during England’s World Cup quarter-final clash with Portugal in 2006.
Together, they won three Premier League titles and the Champions League. The pair also helped United win the League Cup in 2006.
Ronaldo departed for Real Madrid in 2009 after his final top-flight success and has since joined Juventus, from whom he has been linked with a move to City.
The 36-year-old wants to leave the Italian side and could throw away his Red Devils legendary status by joining Pep Guardiola’s side.

Portuguese journalist Goncalo Lopes was first to break the news that Ronaldo has agreed personal terms with the club and has even spoken to Guardiola. The move is just waiting for the two clubs to finalise a deal.
He would not be the first former United player to join City but would certainly be the most high-profile. Goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel and striker Andy Cole both spent time towards the end of their careers on the blue side of Manchester.
United icon Rooney has dismissed suggestions that money could motivate Ronaldo to make the blockbuster switch but has conceded that ‘anything can happen’ in football.
“I don’t know what to make of it, to be honest,” Derby County boss Rooney told a media conference on Thursday.

“If you’re asking me if I think it’s possible then I’d say I have major doubts that it’s a possibility. He has a great legacy at Manchester United and I don’t think he would go somewhere for financial reasons.
“I’m not sure that’s going to happen. I think he has more chance of going to Paris Saint-Germain or staying with Juventus. But on the other hand, it’s football, anything can happen.
“It has happened before. Some big legends from Manchester United have gone to City. Peter Schmeichel went to City, Andy Cole, [and] Mark Hughes managed City, so it has happened before.

“But I think someone of Cristiano’s stature… I can’t see it happening.”
Asked if he remains in contact with his former strike partner, Rooney laughed before responding: “No, I’m sure he has good people advising him.”
Ronaldo has previously ruled out a move to City, citing reasons not too dissimilar to Rooney.
“You think the money will change my mind now? I don’t think so,” Ronaldo told the BBC in 2015.
“This is not going to be a problem. If you speak about the money, I’ll go to Qatar. They probably have more money that Manchester City.
“It’s not about the money, it’s about the passion.”
