Manchester United have concerns over signing Kieran Trippier this summer with Atletico Madrid holding firm to their transfer stance. United began negotiations at the start of June but remain some way off an agreement two months later as Atletico play hard ball over their asking price.

United’s director of football negotiations Matt Judge entered discussions with Trippier’s camp over a transfer before the start of Euro 2020.

Trippier is from the Manchester area and is keen to move back to England following a successful two years in Spain.

The 30-year-old right-back was a key component in Diego Simeone’s title-winning side last season and Atleti do not want to lose him.

Initial reports suggested the England international would be available for around £10million, but The Daily Star says the Spanish club are now holding out for £30m.

Negotiations have stalled recently, with United focusing on the £73m deal for Jadon Sancho and the £34m fee which could rise to £43m for Raphael Varane.

He has also shown with England over the past few years that he is more than capable of playing at left-back, as well as right wing-back in an altered tactical system.

His experience and existing relationships with England team-mates Luke Shaw, Marcus Rashford and Harry Maguire means he is likely to settle in quickly at Old Trafford.

The Athletic reported back in June that Trippier was so confident about the move that he was searching for houses in the Manchester area.

Yet The Star now says he believes any deal could go down to the final days of the window, which closes on August 31.

He is reportedly prepared to sit tight in the hope Atletico will lower their demands in the coming weeks.
