Man Utd Have Held “Talks” About Recruiting Player Who Was Available For Just £8M Last Summer

BACK David Tully Jan 21st 2026 Man Utd are seriously weighing up a move for Besiktas captain Wilfred Ndidi, according to journalist Alan Myers. The former Sky Sports journalist says “talks” have been held, with the Nigerian international keen on a return to the UK just six months after leaving Leicester City: “My contacts in Turkey tell me Manchester United have had talks about Wilfred Ndidi, the player is anxious to return to England.” Ndidi was available for just £8m last summer, but he ended up moving to Turkey, rather than joining another Premier League side following Leicester’s relegation. Why are Man Utd interested in the midfielder? Interim manager Michael Carrick has a preference for playing 4-3-3, and there is a lack of depth in that area of the pitch. As Carrick is only in temporary charge until the end of the season, the Red Devils are reluctant to sign anyone who may not be a good fit in the long term. With Ndidi keen on moving back to England, there could be a potential loan deal on the cards, but a lot will still depend on whether Besiktas are willing to play ball. The Turkish Super Lig side could end up demanding a sizeable loan fee that would make any deal prohibitive. Are there any alternatives to Ndidi? There have been suggestions that United could pursue a move for Al-Hilal’s Ruben Neves, but he is out of contract at the end of the season, so he would only be available on a permanent basis. James Garner was another option, but it looks like he will now sign a new contract with Everton, while Joao Gomes is also not a realistic option with Wolves demanding £40m. AC Milan’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek has reportedly been offered to the Red Devils, and he is available on loan, so he could well be the main alternative to Ndidi. Want more news on Man Utd?
