Man Utd favourites to sign 23-year-old Serie A star

Italian newspaper Tuttosport features a long interview with Lecce chief Pantaleo Corvino, who had a lot to say on transfer business at his current and previous sides.

The 71-year-old had worked at the Serie A club Fiorentina, where the likes of Dusan Vlahovic and Nikola Milenkovic have been shining for the past few seasons and it turns out Pantaleo had something interesting to say about the centre-back.

Quizzed about the Serbian pair, Corvino says that Manchester United made an official bid for Milenkovic, and that was rejected by La Viola.

“For Milenkovic, in January of my last season at Fiorentina, the Della Valle, and I say it here without fear of being proven wrong, refused 40 million euros plus bonuses from Manchester United,” he told Tuttosport.

Corvino worked for La Viola between the summers of 2016 and 2019, which means the Red Devils tabled that offer in the January transfer window of 2019.

A few months later, the Old Trafford outfit ended up spending €87 million on the signing of now-club captain Harry Maguire from Leicester City.

Still, it does not look like their interest in Nikola has ever gone away, since the Serbian defender is still often linked to the Old Trafford side.
