More infoManchester United are reportedly facing competition from Chelsea and Juventus for Argentina’s World Cup winning goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. The Aston Villa player’s performances in Qatar have caught the eye of some of Europe’s biggest clubs as they search for a new option between the sticks.Martinez was one of the World Cup’s stand-out players and won the golden glove award for being the tournament’s best goalkeeper. He was a crucial part of the Argentina team that went on to lift the trophy, saving two penalties in the shootout against the Netherlands in the quarter-finals following a big last-minute stop against Australia in the last 16. However, it was the World Cup final where he made his most telling contribution. A fantastic save from Randal Kolo Muani in the 123rd took the match to penalties before he saved from Kingsley Coman. His pre-penalty antics have also been cited for getting in Aurelin Tchouameni’s head, leading to the midfielder missing his penalty. He has now been linked with a move away from Villa Park with Fabrizio Romano reporting that he could get caught up in a ‘domino effect’ to become an option for United or Chelsea. READ MORE: Messi issued expletive message to Argentina fans when given mic Manchester United could face competition from Chelsea and Juventus for Emiliano Martinez. Reports from Italy have suggested that the Old Lady are prepared to offer Aston Villa Weston McKennie in exchange for the goalkeeper as they seek a longer-term replacement for Wojciech Szczesny whose contract expires in 2024. Martinez suggested Argentina needed to suffer in order to win the World Cup with Kylian Mbappe twice wiping out the team’s lead before the 29-year-old’s penalty heroics. DON’T MISSMessi goal in World Cup final ‘shouldn’t have stood’ say FIFA rulesFederer reaches out to Messi after ‘historic’ Argentina World Cup winMartinez appears to mock Mbappe in Argentina changing room celebration Emiliano Martinez won the golden glove at the World Cup.
