Gary Neville believes Manchester City are still best placed to pip the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool to the title. Pep Guardiola’s side are currently in third position, trailing Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea side by two points.

City, Liverpool, and Chelsea all secured vital victories over Burnley, Watford, and Brentford respectively, and the three giants look like the teams to beat.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s sensational return to Manchester United, as well as his spectacular early form for the Red Devils had many placing United as one of the contenders.

However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side dropped out of the top four after they were beaten 4-2 away to Leicester City in a spectacular game at the King Power Stadium.

Overall, Neville’s thoughts on who will finish the season as champions from the start of the season have not changed; believing Guardiola’s side are the marginal favourites.

“You have to go City because I picked them at the start of the season, but I do think Chelsea have a chance,” said Neville.

“They’ve played Arsenal, City, Tottenham, Liverpool and they’re top of the league, they’ve had a really tough start.

“Lukaku’s not at his best either so again that’s another good sign, you’re top of the league and your main strikers not firing so he’ll fire later in the season.

“I think Chelsea’s side is really strong, we’ve seen without two or three centre-halves they can perform.”

Tuchel’s side had to fight to secure their 1-0 away victory against newly promoted Brentford.

Ben Chilwell’s spectacular half-volley earned the Blues a vital three points; however, Thomas Frank’s side pushed the reigning Champions League winners all the way.

Meanwhile goals from Bernardo Silva and Kevin De Bruyne fired City to another three points at home to Burnley.

After a frustrating start to the season which saw them lose their first match away to Tottenham Hotspur; City have not lost a Premier League match since, and have even secured impressive victories at home to Arsenal and away to Chelsea.

Their dramatic 2-2 draw away to Liverpool at Anfield before the international break, was another statement of their title credentials, as they showed plenty of character to come back from behind twice.

Liverpool on the other hand cruised to a 5-0 away victory to Watford courtesy of a Roberto Firmino hattrick, and goals from Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.

The latter’s effort was a truly spectacular individual goal, which will surely be one of the goal of the season contenders.

However, Neville still thinks the ribbons on the Premier League title will be sky blue at the end of the season.

“I’m saying City but I do think Chelsea could go close if not win it,” said Neville.

“Liverpool best XI but I’m not sure.

“If one or two things go wrong like it did last season with Van Dijk or if Salah got injured, I think they’re a little bit exposed to that.”
