Man United ‘working on’ deal to sign 23-year-old, player ‘wants’ Reds move and now ‘pushing a lot’ for transfer: report

Man United are still working to sign Manuel Ugarte this summer, with the player said to be pushing for a move.

Manchester United are now looking to strengthen their midfield before the close of the summer transfer window. The Old Trafford side have made additions in both defence and attack already, with a midfield addition the next logical step.

The name most linked with filling a void in the defensive midfield spot is Manuel Ugarte, though all had gone quiet on that front for a couple of weeks, with Sander Berge links moving to the forefront.

It looked like Ugarte’s asking price was too high for United, with PSG refusing to budge on their £60m asking price.

However, Fabrizio Romano believes a solution may have been found. According to his latest information, United are ‘working on’ a loan deal with an obligation to buy the 23-year-old.

It’s stated that negotiations will continue, with the player himself wanting a move to United. Ugarte is said to be ‘pushing a lot’ after personal terms were agreed last month.

Bringing in Ugarte on loan could be smart. It means United will be getting their defensive midfield help right now, without having to pay for it until next summer. I presume that falls in line with Premier League spending rules.

United absolutely need someone who is mobile enough in that defensive midfield position and Ugarte definitely fits that bill. He’d bring bags of energy to a position that needs it, as the Reds look to adopt this high-pressing style.

Hopefully, the terms can be agreed in the not-too-distant future, allowing Ugarte to make the move to Manchester as soon as possible.
