Man United ‘waiting’ for club to set asking price for 21y/o, player has been on Reds’ radar for ‘some time’: report

Man United are waiting for Everton to set their asking price for Jarrad Branthwaite.

Manchester United will be in the market for at least one centre-half over the summer. Lisandro Martinez’s injury record, coupled with all of Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Raphael Varane getting up there in age, makes it a certainty.

Perhaps the name linked with filling that void more than most is Jarrad Branthwaite. The Englishman has been excellent for Everton this season, proving his worth as one of the best central defenders in the Premier League.

United are now weighing up Branthwaite as a potential option, though they’re still ‘waiting’ for Everton to set their asking price for the 21-year-old. That’s according to the Daily Mail, who also state that the player has been on their radar for quite ‘some time’.

Everton’s Premier League place for next season is not yet secure, though they are likely to avoid relegation. That could well increase Everton’s demands for Branthwaite. It could also explain the hold-up.

With United suddenly having an older back line, bringing in a younger defender definitely makes the most sense. Branthwaite could easily offer the club a decade of service all being well, which will make the hefty outlay more than worth it in the long run.

For me, Branthwaite should be the number one target. You’d assume the Reds may have to sell before they can buy, but this guy absolutely looks like a United player through and through.

It is good that the club are doing their homework and weighing up other options, with Boca Juniors’ Aaron Anselmino and Barcelona’s Mikayil Faye also being considered as possible candidates.

Do you think a Man United move to sign Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite would make sense? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
