Tom Heaton has committed his future to Man United for another season.

Manchester United Football Club are undergoing major change at the moment – both on and off the field. However, some consistency within the dressing room is key.

Keeping experienced players around could ensure the dressing room remains together and largely in tact. Hence, the Old Trafford side are trying to ensure some older squad members are kept around.

Yesterday, Sky Sports News confirmed that one United veteran, who played 0 games for United last season, has signed a new contract at the club; Tom Heaton.

Heaton has actually only played twice for United over the last couple of years, though the 38-year-old is a respected member of the squad, who provides experience and knowledge aplenty.

Although this may look like a waste of money at first glance, keeping Heaton around is wise. The Englishman knows this club inside out and he’s a Reds fan at heart. Whenever called upon, he’ll always give his best.

You also have to remember that Altay Bayindir’s future at the Theatre of Dreams is far from secure. In that event, Heaton would immediately become the new back-up goalkeeper at United – and I’d have no issue with that whatsoever.

Heaton has never let United down and this is a player who has performed in the Premier League consistently, during his time with both Burnley and Aston Villa.

Again, it’s about not making too many changes in one window. It can disrupt the flow of the dressing room and I’d much prefer to see United avoid that scenario.
