Man United Urged To Sign “Man Mountain” Shot-Stopper Who Would Be A “Massive” Upgrade On Onana – Exclusive

BACK

Ex-Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen has backed the Red Devils to make a move for Paris Saint-Germain number one Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Speaking exclusively to Man U News (courtesy of Poker Strategy), Sir Alex Ferguson’s former assistant said that the Italian international would be an excellent addition to Ruben Amorim’s squad if he does arrive at Old Trafford this summer.

“If you would bring in Donnarumma, you bring in an absolute man mountain of a goalkeeper in everything, stature-wise, won league [titles], won a Champions League, you know what I mean, and he is a good goalkeeper, he’s a good shot stopper. Is he as good with his feet as Onana? Probably not, but is that what you want? Is that what you need?”

“If Donnarumma comes, then obviously he would become the first team goalkeeper, simple, and I can’t see Onana being happy being the second goalkeeper. Would it strengthen Man United in the back line? I think so, massively, because like I said, you put somebody in there and if you then can sort your three centre backs out in front of him, that’s gonna be a really strong defensive unit, then you’ve got another massive piece of the jigsaw.”

What are the chances of Donnarumma joining Man United?

There have been reports that the 26-year-old would be interested in making the switch to the Red Devils, but there is a feeling that he would prefer to remain at PSG if an agreement on a new contract can be reached.

Donnarumma has less than a year remaining on his current deal, and negotiations over an extension have hit the buffers as the European champions are reportedly offering less than his current salary.

Other Premier League clubs could get involved

Both Manchester City and Chelsea have also been linked with a move for Donnarumma, but many feel that the Italian’s representatives may simply be using these clubs as a way of forcing PSG’s hand to give him what he wants.

Even if the keeper doesn’t end up making the switch to Manchester, though, fans will still be hoping that the club do consider bringing in more competition for Onana.
