Former Man United striker Dwight Yorke has backed Benjamin Sesko to be a success at Old Trafford.
Some have questioned whether the Red Devils should have spent £73.7m on the Slovenian international but Yorke thinks he is an upgrade on his predecessor:
“Yeah, I think he’ll come good. I think he’s a better version of Hojlund. I think he’s got more in his locker. [But] when you’re not coming at the best moment, you think you’re going to impact, but then when you get there, [he has to deal with] the goal opportunities that he’s not getting. The team is lacking in confidence, the team is losing against teams that we should be winning against…”
“I always do believe that United can beat those teams. [Then you] will find the likes of Sesko scoring goals. Sesko, for me, he’s got all the ingredients. He works extremely hard. You look at his goal tally.”
Hojlund’s record since leaving Man United has raised questions
After scoring just 4 Premier League goals last season, Rasmus Hojlund has already bagged the same number in Serie A for Napoli. Combined with his goals for Denmark, the forward has scored 8 times in his last 9 appearances for club and country.
As Yorke mentions, playing for a struggling team like United would not have helped matters, but Sesko’s early performances for the Red Devils suggest he will be better equipped for the job.
Patience will be required with Sesko
The 22-year-old did not find the back of the net in his first six appearances following his move to Old Trafford but he has gone on to score two in a row against Brentford and Sunderland.
Sesko may have had a slow start but it does look like he is beginning to find his feet at his new team.
