Man United still ‘hope’ that four players could return from injury in time for FA Cup final in two weeks’ time: report

Erik ten Hag and Man United ‘hope’ that as many as four defenders could return from injury to be involved in the FA Cup final.

Without question, injuries have been the number one cause of Manchester United’s struggles this season. Yes, Erik ten Hag has had his fair share of struggles in the dugout, though he has not been helped by the fact he’s had around 70 different injuries to contend with.

The Red Devils haven’t been able to select a consistent starting line-up all season long, with defence the area of the team that has been affected most. We’ve seen over 30 different back line combinations, which does explain how poor the lads have been when it comes to shipping goals in 2023/24.

United have one important game left; the FA Cup final. As things stand, I’m expecting nothing but an absolute hiding, though to the credit of some lads, they’re trying to get back in time to give us at least a fighting chance.

According to ESPN, United still ‘hope’ that four players, all defenders, could return from injury in time for the Wembley showpiece in two weeks’ time.

All of Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Victor Lindelof and Raphael Varane are pushing to get back fit for the game against our fierce enemy in a fortnight.

Obviously, having these guys back would be a massive help. Martinez has barely played this term, though he is back in training and he is ‘desperate’ to get back out there and help his teammates.

Shaw is another longer-term absence. He’s the one I have my doubts about right now after suffering a recent setback. I’d be massively surprised if he’s fit enough to start in the game.

As for the centre-half pairing of Lindelof and Varane, both have been picking up small injuries all season long, which has prevented them from reaching their peak fitness levels. With the centre-back position absolutely decimated right now, I wouldn’t rule out either, or both, playing here.

Do you think any of these guys will return in time? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
