Ex-Premier League man, Paolo Di Canio, has slammed Antony – and the price Man United paid to sign him…
A scathing attack on Antony from an Italian was not a story we thought we’d be covering today – yet here we are…
When Antony was acquired from Ajax for the vast sum of money that was spent, it was always going to catch media attention. At the end of the day, this is the biggest club in the country, splashing big on a player who hadn’t really been in the spotlight before the move.
Antony started with a goal on debut. He’s scored some beauties, though his name hasn’t been on the goal contribution charts for a few weeks now. The crow-like media are starting to circle, ready to take their shot at the Brazilian – who United absolutely miss when he’s absent, by the way…
Weirdly, Paolo Di Canio, former West Ham striker, is the latest to take a stab at Antony. According to Di Canio, the United star ‘risks breaking his own ligaments’ due to his tricks and flicks, with the Italian also taking a dig at how much United paid to bring in the winger.
Check out what Di Canio had to say on Antony in full here:
“€100m to see him feint with his little legs is too much. He does pirouettes on himself. He risks breaking his own ligaments without the intervention of his opponents.” Di Canio sads live on Sky Sport Italia, relayed by Goal in Italy,
Honestly, it’s just sad. Why does Antony come in for unfair criticism that other players simply do not have to deal with?
The simple fact of the matter is that United perform better with Antony in the team. Their game is far more free-flowing due to his keenness to retain possession and ability to draw the ‘oohs’ and ‘ahhs’ from the crowd.
Yes, he may not be the quickest winger, nor is Antony great with his right foot, but to slag him off for his skills is just lazy. The Brazilian has made United a better team and I’ll defend that point until I’m red in the face.
